My name is Jeff
I started dipping when I was 20, I'm 34. I just spent the last 10 years of my life as a cop and have always told myself dip was less gross than smoking, and the high stress environment I was in did not help...i've been "planning" to quit for sometime, but i've finally decided it's time
I've been fighting my own personal demons for the last few years, and slowly but surely I'm pulling myself out of the hole I've been in
I recently left my job as a cop, for a much higher paid gig with far less stress. The problem I've run into is there's a good bit of downtime and a lot of driving, which was when I most enjoyed a pinch.
I'm currently on hour 15 without nicotine and I'm hoping I can sleep tonite.
I'm here to add to my accountability. Most of my friends and family do not know I used to dip, and I don't intend on that being a topic of conversation. A close friend and his wife have agreed to back me, and hold me accountable...but 2 people only go so far. They won't be there at 3AM when I can't sleep
Jeff,
Welcome to KTC. I'm Jim; nicotine-clean since 11/11/2016, 3:30AM US Eastern Time.
So, you say you want accountability? Start posting roll. Your group is July 2017; you can find its link here:
topic/30190862/1/ Every day, as early as possible in the day, go there and post roll. This means posting your username, day count, and promise not to use nicotine today - what I like to call Morning Promise. This will keep you accountable to everyone in the group.
My quit mantra is "Never Nicotine Now". See, it's always now. It was now when I wrote this; it'll be now when you read this. This mantra keeps the user in the now, never regretting the past or fearing the future. You are nicotine-clean now. Keep it that way. Forget the past; that is over and cannot be changed. Forget the future; we'll take care of that when the passage of time turns later into now. This mantra is not intended to replace One Day At A Time (ODAAT), but to create a more immediate version of it to be used as emergency relapse prevention.
I'll PM you with my digits. Please be advised that I am hearing impaired and cannot take voice calls. I hope to see you when I post roll in your group's Supporter section tomorrow morning.
Fraternally,
Jim H.
P.S.: Did you open my Magic Signature File yet? Click the blue bar below these words and read the articles I posted up. I hope you'll like them. Oh, and that thing about dip being less harmful than smoking? This is only true in the sense that dip is less lethal than smoking. The mortality rate for cigarettes is 50%; the mortality rate for dip is 8%. J.
