My name is Fridge (really its Craig)
Live in Arkansas, have 3 beautiful daughters and great wife and great job. Been chewing on and off for 12-13 years and really hard the last 6 or so. Had a whole bunch of health issues this year and can probably link 1 back to chewing so decided to quit for good. I have been having GI and stomach issues and had a scope done and they said I have long-term GERD but never had heartburn in my life. I guess nicotine can relax your esophagus muscle and let stomach acid creep up, etc.
Last day was 11/24(Feb 2020 class I think) although had drastically tapered off for the 45 days before that to try to make it easier. In some ways its been easier than I thought it some ways much, much harder. I'm at Day 16 now and despite some irritability and sleeplessness feel pretty good. Had a few quick bouts of anxiety which seem to be getting better.
Been really trying to keep myself busy at work and at home to just not let my mind wonder and working for the most part.
I even forced myself to take an hour long drive to just prove to myself that i did not "need" a dip to get thru it.
It is an enormous mind game that i know i can win just takes patience and perservance. i have a lot of the later but very little of the former.
I wish you all luck, so far so good for me but I'm sure there are more trying days ahead.
Thanks for this site been very helpful as I've been lurking for a bit and reading and understanding as I moved forward.
Hey
@Fridge welcome. Check your math again just so you’re sure. If you quit on 11/24, that’s day 1, which would put you at Day 18 now. March 2020 group includes quitters beginning on 11/23, so that’s where you should go post your name, day and promise today.
Here is the link -
https://ktcforum.org/index.php?topic=16102.0I commend you for making it that many days on your own. However, for the foreseeable future and long term, you’re going to need the help and wisdom of other quitters who are going through or have gone through what you are going through now. That support system is here in KTC. Start sharing your digits with other quitters in March and some veterans as well who will reach out - I’m sending you a PM now.
Patience will be a smaller mountain to tackle when you start thinking in terms of one day at a time (ODAAT) or even one minute at a time (OMAAT).
Proud to quit with you today (PTQWYT),
Andy
