Hey Husker,

- Hid the shit from my wife too.  I can relate to your ninja-ness.

- Can't quit due to upcoming trips, etc... I can relate to your careful planning.

- Also have a little girl, she turns 4 next month.  I can relate to that one the most ...

I'm on day 44 after 28years ... stay strong bro, we'll do this shit together.
Thanks for the message man. I'm on day 3 now and isn't near as bad as I remember from the first time I (didn't) quit. Congrats on making it to day 44. At what point did you start feel like things were turning around? Day 5, 10, 40?
It took me about 120 days. I love being quit now. Never again...never again.
I had road rage for the first time in my life on Day 40. I absolutely wanted to kill somebody on Day 40. Today is day 48, I am still wondering when my easy-going laid back self will return. I am praying that part of my personality wasn't all nicotine. That being said, day 48 is much easier that days 1-47. Everyday it seems to get a little easier, I think about it a little less and the craves pass pretty quickly with hard candy. I do know that I can never let down my guard, because as soon as I do, that is when the Nic Bitch makes her move.

When you're angry/frustrated/bitchy/pissed off and want to fight, get on his site and rant to us, don't take it out on your wife and family. We know what you are feeling, we have lived it too. We can handle the rants and raves. Your wife shouldn't have to.

Got yourself some top notch support there Husker. You are a very lucky man to have folks willing to fight the battle with you. Show them as much respect by giving it your best brother. Fight for this. Daily.

Hey Husker,

For me I felt it within a week. Once the nic is out of your system (I think about day 3 or 4), it becomes a total mind game.

Everything from there on out for me was about re-learning everything I did. From driving, to being on the computer, to golfing, etc ... You will constantly think "Man, I can't wait for ___ so I can dip." Then you'll say to yourself, "Oh yeah, I don't do that anymore." Took about a month before the constant automatic thoughts slowed down.

Don't get me wrong, I still think about it, but it's SO much easier now. Stay strong!

It starts getting a little easier every day but still need to make a concious decision even at day 15 (which I'm on). Those first few days are hard so stay focused. This morning was nice...my first thought wasn't about dipping.

Thanks guys. Day 2 hasn't been out of control. I just keep thinking about what a stupid fucking habit it is and then I pop some hooch in my mouth. I think about my little girls and that caringbridge link I read through yesterday. What a sad story that is.

Thanks for the kind words all.
you will succeed if you can keep that thought and this attitude....
there really is no other alternative.
you can do this so do it......

When you really think about the habit itself, it so f#*$ing stupid it is hard not to laugh.  "Hey, let's spend $1500/year to stick some plant in our mouths that is going to kill us."  Ok genius.
Yep, stupidest shit ever right? And the extent of the control it has on an addict is beyond laughable. 'bang head'

Post roll and take it one day at a time - 12 days for me and feeling pretty good after being its bitch for 21 years - if I can do it, anyone can.

All,

The first day of the rest of my life is almost in the books. I have read almost everything on this website several times before, but never had the true desire to quit. There was always something coming up next week or trip planned next month that I couldn't imagine going on with out my best bitch Skoal Straight. I have been wanting to do this for awhile, but today I flushed 2 cans down the toilet.

My wife helped me quit once before and it sucked for both her and me. She told me at that time, she never wanted to go through a month like that again. I obliged, but then six months later I got hooked again and hid it from her for several years. Now, I am asking her to help me one more time.

It is going to be tough, but when my mind tries to confuse me I will fight back. A ground up plant stuck in the front of my mouth is such a ridiculous proposition that I am going to laugh at the cravings. When you really think about the habit itself, it so f#*$ing stupid it is hard not to laugh. "Hey, let's spend $1500/year to stick some plant in our mouths that is going to kill us." Ok genius.

I look forward to the battle with you guys. I will not be defeated this time.
I'll second what Scowick said, you can do this and get past all the bullshit. Read, read, and read some more. Have your wife read through the spousal support page to help her understand what you'll be going through. The first few days are a complete bitch, but the system here will help you navigate your way through it. Stay close to the site, read, chat, PM, text some brothers, do what ever you have to do to keep that shit out of your mouth for today...just today. Shoot me a PM of you need a number...you got this and we've got your back.

Proud to be quit with you today!

I see you posted roll. Listen, I want you to quit and I want your wife to not put up with the bullshit. If you need a quit sherpa I am your man. Give me a PM. You can do this. You have my support as well as the rest of the gang. Just keep reading and you got this.
