Alternative wise, it kind of depends on what you used.
Smokey Mountain (found at most Walmarts now) is long cut, and many people prefer it because it resembles Skoal long cut. However, I had issues with the Cherry flavor because it was so close to the real stuff. It's other flavors are good, but it tends to be "sticky" and leaves a brown residue all over your mouth and fingers.
Hooch is a fine cut, and resembles fine cut. It's flavors are good (not as realistic as SMS, but close), and the people are awesome there. When I first quit, I made a small order there (which was lost in their processing system). I called after a couple weeks and spoke to them. They apologized profusely and said that they would throw in a couple of free cans. They tripled my order for free.
Those are the 2 most popular.
There's also Grindz (which recently just appeared on the SharkTank and is in MLB clubhouses now). It is made from coffee grounds.
There's quite a few products out there actually.
HERE is a discussion thread we have talking about different ones we've tried.
One word of advice though: Be careful going to the nic counter looking for these products. If you decide to search them out, I would suggest calling ahead and verifying that they have them there. If you can, order them off the internet to avoid any issues.
Everybody has there own personal tricks as well. I discovered that cherry pits fill that pocket in your lip pretty well, and a brother of mine would dip coffee grounds straight. I've heard that tea bags work great as well.
The point is that you need to do what you need to do to get through today.
You can do this man.
