Still having trouble with the roll call thing and my
"smart" phone. Anyway just wanted to let you all know still dip free and rolling along. I actually did not crave a dip when I got up this morning. I know there are still going to be several obstacles in the road. Those times like fire assignments, sitting in the duck blind, or playing ball that are going to be hard but I am committed to this and with all the support here I am positive it will be a success.

Captain,

From one Public Safety Professional to another... I know how hard it is to get away from it whenever so many people around you do it. You're quit now, and so am I. All it took for me was pictures of oral cancer and what happens during and after surgery. I have been trying to get others to quit with me but they are clearly way too addicted to see the problem.

It's hard when you have periods of inactivity and then sudden excitement... It's a stressful job and COPE was our COPING mechanisms.... Now we need to find new ones. I have been using gum and sunflower seeds and I've noticed not as much as when I first QUIT.

I know you can do it capt'

You run into buildings while people are running out of them. If you are man enough to do that, then you are man enough to give your word and not use nicotine today and just for today.

Welcome aboard capt! I am on day 43 myself. Squared away decision concerning the quit. Let me know via PM if you need anything or want to ask questions, vent, chat, discuss existentialism, greek and roman philosophers, art and of course beer.

Thank you all for the responses and advise. You are right luck is not an option and was a bad choice of words on my part. I am committed to quitting. Copenhagen has been an addiction far to long in my life and I am ready to kick it's butt to the curb.

Welcome. I see you posted early in the AM. When you get up this morning read this: index.php?showforum=13

Yea, it is hard at first. Like Dante said, Simple not easy. If you post roll every morning and use this site and get involved it will be easier for you to quit. If you have the will power, we have the plan.

Lets get to it. :)

Hello all,
New to this forum as I just found it while browsing for support for quitting...

...I have made it 48 hrs. Now and I feel like crap. Everything is pissing me off and I have a raging headache. Wish me luck as I really want to do this and be chew free for the first time in almost 30 years.
Capt,

First off welcome! Congrats on a great decision.

Let me make something clear for you. We support quitters here. We will not support those making a half assed attempt: you are either quit or you are not. There is no "luck" involved. This is not a hand of poker. Make a decision to BE quit and do it! Here's how:

1) Post roll-this is your promise to yourself and everyone on the forum to be nicotine free TODAY.
2) Honor your word-it's all about the integrity of your promise (we treat this like a typed handshake)
3) Stay quit today. Worry about tomorrow when it gets here.

Simple, not easy.

Glad to be quit with you, PM me if you need anything!

P.S. Don't take out the rage on your family, you are an addict and you did this to yourself. Come in here and yell at us or pop into live chat. We understand. We were there. Embrace "the suck." After three days, you are nicotine free, and you will never have to go through that again...unless you cave.

Hello all,
New to this forum as I just found it while browsing for support for quitting. I have been dipping Cope since I was 13 yrs. old (1981). About a can a day. I had quit before about 10 years ago for several months. I went on a fire assignment and while working night shift I fell back into the trap. I want to quit for myself and my kids. My daughters find it disgusting and my son mimicks me by spitting. I forgot how damn hard it is. I have made it 48 hrs. Now and I feel like crap. Everything is pissing me off and I have a raging headache. Wish me luck as I really want to do this and be chew free for the first time in almost 30 years.
Welcome brother. Today is quit day 6 for me and it's the first day I didn't wake up with a headache. Hang in there... it will get easier much quicker than you think. One day at a time.
WHO ARE WE?

Quit June 22, 2011 and every day since.
