Hi. I started dipping at eighteen. 27 years later now and I am done.

I played two sports, where it was common practice for players to dip, water polo and ice hockey. I was able to avoid the temptation in high school, but couldn't get past it in college.

Over the years, I have tried to quit. I tried the patch nearly 20 years ago. I have tried the gum 15 years ago. I quit, cold turkey, 12 years ago. But succumbed to the temptation when I started a sales job where people either smoked or dipped. I have since left that line of work and came to the decision 5 days ago that I was done with this for the last time. This time I am using meds and this group to quit for good.

I was turned onto this website by a friend and fellow group member, AquaDipper.

I will not give in again. I can do this.
I quit with this badass serious quitter Today.

Quit on brother! It gets better don't give in she's (nic bitch) tough olé gal but gotta learn to slap her around! Stay focused! Damn proud to be quit with you! Just an addict trying to help another addict!
I like your attitude and I like that you very early on have someone else in your life making this "real" many a quitter takes almost a year to meet another quitter in real life, you have a great gift in that.

Being and staying quit take the right attitude and the ability to persevere when the bad days come and go and trust me you have some major hurdles ahead of you.

Quit hard, quit proud and involve family and friends in it as often and early as possible.

Don't be afraid to share your stories and your concerns now because if you are like me, rereading that Bullshit addict babble later in your quit will only help you further drive a wedge between you and nicotine.

Kick ass, Brother! Read intros and journal entries. PM guys and share your phone numbers just in case you need some urgent support. Post every day and use whatever you need to get through the uglies as long as there is NO NICOTINE. I quit with you today and every damn day from here on out.

No meds and no fake stuff today. Texts from friends and family and the will to power through it. Don't get me wrong, the urge to dip is HUGE, but I can fight the urge.
We beat this urge one minute/hour/day at a time brother Rooster!
If my sorry ass can do this, then I know that Your ass can too.

Also, just saw that AquaD told you about KTC. I'd invite you, if you'd like, to come post roll (in addition to your quit group in June) and bitch with us in (October 2014. You're always welcome
"Post roll. Post more if you want to. That's the beauty of the place: We ask you post roll. We ask you to be honest. That's all. No more. No less. Be there for your brothers and ask for help when you need it." - Wastepanel 10/6/14

"What would you do to save your own life? If you were fighting cancer today would you suffer through Chemo, surgeries, try new a therapy? change your diet, go to church? What intolerable hell would you endure to simply live. When you have thought long and hard about that, think on this. Why not apply that attitude to your quit. Suffer through the temporary discomfort of withdrawal to achieve your freedom from a slow painful demise via nicotine. Your in the ring already- fight like you mean it." - Skoal Monster 10/8/14

Hey Erooster, I'm glad you found KTC. Great job on making the decision to retake control. What is the medication that you're taking? It doesn't have nicotine in it, does it? Like something to back you off the bitch gradually? If so, get rid of it. We go full on quit here.

I recommend checking out the welcome center and poke around and read stuff. Most importantly, learn how to post roll, and then do it first thing every day. You're in the June pre-HOF group. Make sure to get numbers of a few people that you can reach out to when things get rough.

I quit with you today.
Chantix - Though, knowing me, I won't be on it for long. I am not too good at taking meds for long periods of time. I won't even take the pain meds I've been given to help kill the pain of all my injuries, I just live with it.
Congratulations on your decision Erooster. Sounds like you have the right damn attitude, which is always great to see.

All these quitters have given great advice. I'll just add a couple things in:

- Make a plan. How are you going to protect your quit every day? How will you beat the craves? My recommendation is to get some phone numbers from your quit group. Build your network.

- Balls to the wall, brother. No need to think about a week, a month, or ten years down the line. You are quit today (I assume you've thrown everything out?). No nicotine today. All you've got to do is do the same thing tomorrow.

Quit with you, One Day At A Time (Every Damn Day)

Heck yea bud! Welcome to the best decision you have ever made. Glad to quit with you today. Tomorrow we quit again. Let me know if you néed help posting roll. Get on tonight and make that promise! So happy for you!!!
Erooster- 90% of this battle is attitude and it sounds like you have the right attitude. The other part is arming yourself with knowledge: read, read, and read some more on this web-site. Put as much time feeding your quit as you did feeding your addiction and you can and will beat this.

Post roll: early and every damn day
Read: stick around, get involved in your group; read other intros, words of wisdom, get in chat
Get involved: post support in other groups; update your intro to document your journey; support your brother in quit

Drink lots of water the next few days; if you don't have to piss every time you walk by a bathroom you aren't drinking enough water. Flush that shit out of your system.

Quit with you, one day at a time.
