Holy shit.

Colonel, I dont hold you in such a low regard, I get pissed off when someone refers to me as a lost cause, idiot, and tells me "You better not say this or that when I'm around"

Yeah..Right. Whatever Chief.

What I have learned...

Stay very vigilant. I was relaxed, tired and getting gas for the morning haul to take the kids to school. Without even thinking I ordered up a tin. I threw it away. I got lucky.

Funny thing is, I bought it out of habit. The same way I reach for a spitter while chewing gum. I realized what I had done and THEN my addiction really started kicking in.

Nicotine started the tricks. The usual shit that we all know about. "Just one dip, your good. You dipped for years and quit, you can do one and quit again. Its all good. Just a small one, for like two minutes tops. After that its done. Don't you want to just taste it one more time? Cmon! For old times sake! You wont get cancer from one more! Just smell it. Come on, I mean, doesnt it just feel good to pack that tin? Just one little dip. Remember when you were younger, playin ball with a fat lip in? Ahh, good times. Just one, just for tonight. Its after midnight, you wont be breaking your roll post...

Shit you dont even have to tell anyone. It'll be our little secret"

Man, it was an epic battle. I mustered up the strength to pitch it. My old lady saw the tin and snuck off with it for a while. I noticed this and didnt say anything. She came back in from smoking and said, "You gonna tell them about this?" I said, "Eh, maybe. It wasn't really intentional and I decided Im not going to dip." She laughed at me. Thats when I realized I am in WAY over my head here. How I survived was a point of luck and divine intervention.

The point is this, fellow quit brothers and sisters...

Take those extra precautions. Yes, the ones that seem ridiculous. Stay away from it at all costs. The people at the store don't know your quit. They aren't going to stop you so it is up to YOU to stay away from tobacco.

Be vigilant. Think of your nicotine addiction not as a dependency to a drug, but more like a sneaky thief of freedom and good health that has an agenda against you. Think of it as an entity, a powerful entity that knows EVERYTHING about you, because it is you. It is your Dr. Jeckyll. Your own mind has an alternate personality that will step right into your shoes and try to take control. This isn't a simple chemical dependency, I swear it is another evil person inside yourself and its only purpose is to get you back on the nicotine.

You created this monster when you started nicotine, and it doesn't want to go away.

The ONLY way to keep it in check is to rely on the connections you have made in your journey to freedom.

Be careful out there quitters. Nicotine has a powerful weapon, and its you.

Hows that Colonel?

This is my keepsake for when I almost caved at day 6.

Scratch the patch, it don't work.

The patch is like, like suppose your wife caught you cheating with the neighbor's wife. You're getting some against the law pussy, and that ain't right. But you sweet talk your way out of the shotgun sights, promise never to do it again and swear off all other women's pussy for her. Next night, you're fuckin the neighbor's dog. No, it ain't another woman, but you're still gettin outlawed pussy and cheatin on the wife. Piss on that patch!
Thats just nasty! A dog?! WTF!

I know I am sure you guys will flame me now for this, as I wasn't aware that you couldn't post roll with a nicotine patch on. I did post roll earlier. Oops. I wont do it again until the patch is off.

Anyway, the patch does two things for me...

One, it takes the edge off for the first few days, (which isn't saying much, these cravings are WAY worse that cigarette cravings) then I take it off. Otherwise I know I will fail in the long run. Its just too easy to steal a smoke around here, since I flushed all my dip down the toilet.

Second, with it on, I know if I cave I'm gonna get sick. It'll be too much nicotine in my system if I smoke or dip with the patch on (probably, actually probably not with how much I dipped but it still helps mentally) So if I have a wicked crave, I can cool down for a second because I know that I would have to take the patch off, wait a bit and THEN smoke or go buy dip. This way, its almost like freezing a credit card in a cup of water. You see a sweet TV and you want to buy it. You dont need it, but you want it bad. You have to take that credit card out of the freezer and let the ice melt out of the non-microwavable cup you put it in. During that time, you will start to feel guilty, change your mind and put it back in the freezer.

Same logic here and it helps. I tried with no patch, I fail if I dont start with the patch.

I know its still "sucking on nicotines tit" but I cannot fail this time. Way too much to lose. Besides, there is a sheriffs office I want into bad, and you can't use tobacco products there.
You know what? You guys are right. This shit is gonna suck, but I am tearing it off.

Im tearing it off, going for a run and then hitting the mountain bike for a while.

Here's looking forward to a few days of no sleep, sweats, and the shits. I salute you with fire in my eyes and a middle finger in the air.

Nice to know you, but goodbye nicotine. "Your in my world now."

-Just ripped it off. Wish me luck ppl! And thanks for setting me straight.
Excellent work. But I won't wish you luck. YOU DON'T NEED IT. You have balls, attitude and integrity. Bring the quit brother. Fight for it.

Yep! So far so good. Chewing a ton of gum and just going for a jog or doing pushups if the cravings get too intense. I should probably post roll.
Not with a patch on your ass!

You rip that shit off this second. You still got a teat in your mouth. COLD TURKEY. As in no nic of any kind. You can shoot heroin in your arm and in your feet and in your eyes and all kinds of places. A junkie is a junkie. Enough.

Hey everyone.

Ending my first day dip-free, well almost. (I had a small pinch this morning. Afterwards I decided to trash my dip and put on a nicotine patch.)

I found a white spot on my gum right in front. Although I doubt it is dangerous, it was a bit sore and I have never seen that before. Its enough to scare me shitless so today I declare myself a non-tobacco user.

Anyway, it appears to be doing a little better now, however after doing some research I will NEVER put this shit in my mouth ever again. Hell, I am already planning on getting a gym membership so I can stop trying to work out in my basement with all the money I will save. I was dipping 5 tins in three days.

I also smoked for years. Im 30 now and I am done with tobacco. It has controlled me long enough. So I found and joined this site for support and to help others along.

I am glad I found this site. Its good to know I'm not alone.
You got a patch on one of those guns right now brother?
