Hi, all. It's been crazy after my 10 days away. I did want to give you guys a quick update.

I met my wife and kids out west, and although I had already broken the news to her, she was still ELATED that I had quit! I can't believe how much more enjoyable it made the trip.

You guys know how it is... you go somewhere, and you're hoping beyond hope that nothing is going to tie you up for more than an hour. I used to be the biggest killjoy on long excursions and what not, but not this time! We went on an all day excursion in Sedona, Az, starting with a jeep tour, then horseback riding, a cowboy dinner and a show. It was 8 hours total, and I would have been *miserable* waiting for my next dip. I did take a can of fake dip with me, but never touched it. Dipping never even crossed my mind. Wonderful. Simply *awesome*.

After returning home, I also went over to a buddy's house where a group of us meet to brew beer (and drink our creations!). It's a big cigar thing. Everyone will smoke one or two during the process. I didn't touch a single cigar, nor did the second-hand smoke make me crave anything. I'm so anti-nicotine right now I don't want to touch anything with nicotine in it.

I'm sorry I fell off of the forums for a bit... I'll def plan ahead better next time!

24 days.... WOW!!!!!!!!!
Good job on your quit man. keep playing it close though and own it everyday cause the ride's not over.

hello. this is my first post. im looking for a no-nicotine substitute for grizzly wintergreen pouches? ive tried herbal stuff before but it tasted so different and the texture was so different from longcut it didn't work. i figured the feeling of pouches (and hopefully taste) will be easier replicated from a herbal substitute. does anyone have any idea the closest substitute in taste to grizzly wintergreen pouches?

would really appreciate some help but i really don't wanna spend a bunch of money again on something i won't use because it's not even close. thanks :)
Would prolly be better for you to start your own intro page, on to the question though. I'm not sure that you will find an herbal snuff that is identical to grizzly, I used the Smokey mountain herbal and I was a Copenhagen long cut user for years. The Smokey mountain really helped me a lot for the first few weeks and then I just dropped it as well. Some people on here with swear by the fake stuff and others never really used it much. The best thing to do though to get your quit started off right is to go post roll in the October 13 quit group and then make yourself an intro page and use all of the resources that are available for you here. Their are a lot of substitutes for dip and just to name a few, you have seeds, gum, tooth picks, hard candy, some people even use coffee beans and tea bags, just use anything that you can as long as it has no nicotine or tobacco in it you will be just fine. If you ever need anything at all feel free to pm me.

First of all you will want to make a new intro so you are not hijacking someone elses thread.

Second of all you are a nicotine addict and anything you shove in your piehole that does not contain nicotine will not satisfy you. Now before everyone goes ballistic on me, you can use herbal as a tool to help with the oral fixation. But it will not give you the "fix" you are looking for.

You can also try regular gum (no nic gum), toothpicks, seeds, atomic fireballs, anything it takes to keep that crap out of your mouth.

If you have any questions pm me or put them in an intro of your own.

All very good points... thanks, guys! I think I was mainly referring to the "what to expect when you quit" article and the first three days (when the nic is out of your body). I'm not having those foggy, wretched days anymore, but I know I'm far from done. Last time I quit I had "dip dreams" for years afterwards. Crazy stuff.

Well, I woke up again with no cravings. I must say, this time is very different than the last time I quit. My quit last time is what made me hesitant about this time. Last time I quit, I was in the "fog" for a month. IT WAS **BAD**. For a good three months my wife said I was very difficult to live with. I don't know what is different physiologically about this time, but I"m glad it's different. So, so glad.

Got to go sign in. 100 days is going to be *mine*. With every day that passes I want it that much more!!!!!!

-----------------------------------------------
EDIT:

By the way... keep me in mind. I'm heading out to our place at the lake today, and it was a dipping haven for me. I really think I'll be okay, but it's a big test.

Also, I broke the news to my wife. I've been so excited I couldn't wait. She was floored!!!! I've also told several of my friends... more incentive to follow through with what I say I'm going to do.
I'm a firm believer that your physiology can be influenced by your mind set. I don't know the background of why you stopped chewing for a few years prior to this quit, but if you had a negative outlook on your past quit then I believe you will feel worse during it. We say it here all the time. Mind over matter! If you carry this quit with excitement and determination and do it for the right reasons I believe it is easier! Not easy but easier! Those who quit for the wrong reasons have a hard time at it and ultimately fail! Keep the positive attitude.

Ohhhhh yes. I was a quitter for seven years who is now back on Day 6. That was kind-of cocky of me, wasn't it? Seriously, though, I didn't mean that to be cocky. I, of all people, should certainly know how slippery a slope nicotine can be.

I'm done with it. I don't want to touch it again. It makes me furious that despite all of the things I'm capable of doing, it is one thing that has been out of my control, and it could *kill* me. And not some quick, painless death, either.

oh be careful there, as many times have we seen the cocky, overconfident, complacent one come back with a new Day 1.

Keep your guard up Every Damn Day. You can do this.

And use what you have been through to keep you from repeating the past.

Don't know whether to double post or not since it's been a while.  Let me know if it's a no-no and I'll not do it again.

Well, I've been driving a good part of the day, and I'm doing so, so well.  I'm sooooo thankful for dip substitutes.  Man has this stuff come such a long way.  I couldn't do the fake dip when I tried to quit last time... it was so pointy it hurt my lip, and it came out in a glob that just stayed there.  I've only tried Smoky Mountain, but it's working pretty well for me since it actually tastes similar to what I was dipping (Grizzly).

It seems my nicotine addiction is gone.  Ohhhh I'm so excited!  The last time I quit I ended up picking up cigars about a year later, and I became dependent on them.  My wife's dislike of the permeating smell is what turned me back to dipping.  No more.  No nicotine for me at all.  Zero, zilch, nada.  If I get a terminal illness and they find that nicotine can cure it, I'll just die.  LOL!

BTW--where am I supposed to post my pledge to quit?  Kind of a moot point now I guess, but it would be good to do.
Whooooooa!!!!!! I'm glad you are excited and doing well! But I gotta stop you! Your nicotine addiction is NOT gone! By definition an addict is an addict for life! You may be doing well but DO NOT get cocky! Was it gone for the year you quit before? NO or else you wouldn't be here today! Enjoy the victory, but prepare yourself. It is a daily battle!
Addiction cannot be cured. VERY TRUE! Its a condition that if left untreated is dangerous but if you treat it daily, it is manageable and gets to where you don't notice it.

My skin peels around my nose. There is no cure. Doctor gave me elidel. If I put it on daily, I never have a problem. If I don't, skin sheds off my nose. Its just a welsh gene I inherited but it doesn't bother me anymore because I treat is daily.

Same shit just with your mind. Posting roll and quitting every day with accountability makes the treatment of addiction simple.

Stick with the plan for life. Get used to that and this is a fucking cake walk in time. Just be alert and keep support close because flare ups are unpredictable at times.
