Bass man - I started nicotine (cigs) at 13 - now I'm almost 50 (don't feel 50). I quit with you today.

man i cant tell you how many days i been quit with oout lookin on the calcalater on the home page. i can tell you 2 things with out thinkin tho.

1 my last dip was the 12th a november in 08.
2 i aint gonna dip today.

Way to go on posting roll N2, today is your day 2. I just want you to know that starting dip at a very young age or doing it for a long time does not increase the severity of the addiction. An addict is an addict is an addict. We can all beat this thing one day at a time. I actually think the longer term dippers have an advantage because they have more years of hate and disgust for this disease. I tried chew in 1st grade and was regular by 9 yrs old and continued for nearly 4 decades. Day 51 for me today and my hate for nicotine and Big Tobacco is unwavering. YOU can do this!

Yep, take it one day at a time. That is what works here. Don't count on any successes until you get them, but celebrate every milestone. Some don't agree with that, but I say to hell with them. I am proud of every one of mine, and I will regard them as trophies because they are some of the hardest-earned I have received. I have 5 of them now, and I got all of them by following the plan here: 1 day at a time.

Sounds like your mindset is a lot like mine. Just done. That is excellent. Read my HOF speech (linked in my sig at the bottom of this post) and I bet you'll see some similarities.

DO NOT take this out on your wife. Our spouses had nothing to do with our stupidity. If she reads the spouse's section that imwhip linked in his post, that will help you both immensely. My wife had no idea that nicotine is an addiction instead of just a "habit".

Yep. Took my fist chew out on the farm when my dad left it on the truck seat. Guess I wanted to be like him. Everybody thought it was cute then. Wished somebody had slapped it out of my mouth.

I cant think of anything that I learned at 5 that I still do today.

I am quitting cold turkey as well. Please don't take it out on your wife or anyone. This is something that you committed to when you took your last dip.

You have made it through the first 12 hours. I can't say that it gets any easier after that, but one thing that has helped me make it thus far is to cut the day into fractions and set goals. IE). You have made it from

6 a.m. through 10 a.m.
10 a.m. through 1 p.m.
1 p.m. through 4 p.m.
4 p.m. through 7 p.m.

You can make it from 7 p.m. through 10 p.m.

Another problem for me was the oral fixation. Peppermints and gum have helped fill the space in my mouth where chew once did.
