I have to agree with what everyone has said so far, and I know how it goes, in the Army Infantry world the dipping is rampant, the freezers are stocked with Red Man and every Specialist has an extra can of Skoal in his pocket. That's how it is. You don't have to dip.
I have attempted to quit a couple of times before, and I have never gotten as far as I have with this forum. I will have to say, it alleviates some of the emotional stress if you quit when you are away from your loved ones. You just don't want to have to deal with all the side effects of the nicotine withdrawal at the same time that you're trying to re-accustom yourself to civilian life.
ETSing is a stressful time for anyone, why wait a month to do something you can do today? Very honestly, it would make more sense for you to leave the Corps without an addiction than to leave with an addiction and attempt to beat it later.
My advise is to quit dipping today...but that's what everyone else has already said. I didn't understand the urgency until I got past day 3 or 4 and really started to feel the shock effects of the nicotine withdrawal. It sucks. I need to get this poison out of me. You do too, we care about you here, we know what you're going through in your head right now, and what you're going to be feeling a few days from now. We can help you, but first you have to stop dipping.
Do it for yourself, not for your girlfriend or anyone else. Do it because you want to live the rest of your life without the poison eating away at your gums, your jaw, and your face. Or just do it because...because whether you like it or not you are letting someone else control your feelings, your moods, your day to day life....
