My wife and I sat down and talked for over an hour. While it was one of the most difficult things to do, I finally admitted out loud to her and especially to me that I am an addict. I shared my thoughts expressed on this site as well as many other things I had been keeping from her about my addiction to nicotine.

It was not pleasant at first but once through it and after full disclosure she understands how much her support means to me. This is the next positive step on the long road away from the nicotine monkey on my back.

Thanks for everyone's input.

Your life will improve so much more now. Congratulations Davo. And Congratulations Amy.
Keep raising that accountability bar man. It is rewarding to get those dirty lil secrets off of your chest. One day at a time.

It really is all about accountability. I quit with you today Davo
Bravo good sir. Bravo.

I know that was a huge step in my quit. And improved my relationship with my sweetie as well. Good for you.

Congratulations! I am happy for you and your wife. I know very well how it felt to lie and know how it feels to experience the freedom of honesty. If you are anything like me your quit is looking brand new this morning. I awoke the morning after coming clean to my wife, and realized I had burnt my last boat, there was no turning back...
I don't know if you have seen the "contract" on here (I am horrible with the links, and computers in general) but it is a powerful reminder of what we have accomplished and what we face each day. I keep a copy in my wallet.

Again congratulations, you did the right thing and I am very happy it turned out well for you, and for your marriage.

Fantastic job, Davo. You are 1,000 times stronger now. That was the biggest place I had "left the door open", it would have been easy to slip back into it because she didn't know. Look for other places you've left the door cracked to nicotine and when you see them, slam the door! Burn your boat! You don't do that crap anymore!

Well done, my friend!

Great talk you had with your bride. This addiction is virtually impossible to explain to a non-user. Notwithstanding, I'm certain that she will get on board and provide you support, just as my wife did when she, too, was at her wit's end with my lies over the addiction.

Great job you are doing.

I lied to my lady for 2.5 years. She knew anyway, but didn't know the extent. She, like many other wives of dippers, was VERY supportive of my resolve to quit. It has strengthened our relationship in more ways than I can count. Having that level of accountability is important, and having her support is even more important.

You will not regret telling the truth.

Good for you.

"Being honest requires courage because it makes us vulnerable and accountable. To avoid stepping on the feelings of others with our honesty also requires tact. Clearly, being truly honest involves more than just telling the truth in every situation, but for people of integrity it is the only acceptable choice."

I'm not smart enough to write that. But, I am smart enough to have some references and seek out advice when I encounter events that I don't know how to deal with.

Thanks Ag and Notdead,

I am just now getting back to my own intro page and read your posts - it's good stuff and reminds me I am not alone in this struggle.

Tonight I have the long overdue talk with my wife about my resolve to take back my life and return to the lives we once shared. I don't expect it to be the most welcome heart to heart but necessary nonetheless. It's good to know that your wives have taken you back - it gives me hope.

Thanks again for you honesty.
Good luck with the talk. I hope it goes as well as mine did.
I quit with you again today. I look forward to you joining me as an "ex-ninja"

Congrats on your 30 days of quit. I was a ninja dipper for a long time. My wife knew I would chew occasionally, but I was doing it a lot and hiding it from her. She was disappointed when I came clean a few weeks ago and told her that I had basically been dipping for the past year without her knowing. But she supports my quit 110% and asks me every day how I'm feeling etc.

Moral of the story, tell her. You need her help too. She may be pissed for a while, but she will get over it.

You know the drill. Stay focused, post roll, one day at a time.
