You can do it man. Anxiety sucks, I'm only on quit day 29 but it's starting to get better. I'm trying to do it without the help of anti anxiety drugs. If i new it was going to be this hard I would have started on the anxiety drugs on day one but I found out that alot of them can take up to two weeks to start feeling the effect. That said I'm far enough in that I hope the fog/dizzyness will lift. feels like it is every day a little (This site helps out the most so post and read as much as you can it helps me). Again great job and stay quit.

Congrats!!! The first two days are the hardest two days. You've made a great choice and you're in the toughest part of the battle for your life.

We're behind you every step of the way. Just post roll, stay quit, and repeat. You can do this!!!

I definitely agree that physical activity will help you to deal with the anxiety issues a lot too. Also, you may want to see if you're replacing your nicotine with caffeine, and if you are, you may want to make sure you're not consuming it in the later afternoon, since that can cause you anxiety as you try to fall asleep later in the evening. It's just a thought but I think I was doing that early on,

Well done! One more day and the nicotine is completely out of your system.

Brace yourself though, once the "phyical" part is done, the mind fuck begins. Like others have said, read up. There is a shitload of information on this site.

You've got this. Quit for 10 minutes at a time. 10 minutes turn into an hour which turn into one day. That's all you need to concern yourself with, quitting for a day. Deal with tomorrow in 24 hours.

Like you, I never thought I'd make it through the first day. I'm coming up on one year quit next month, after 19 years of Kodiak and Copenhagen. If I can do this, so can you. Hit me up if you need anything.

There are many quitters on here that have used Chantix or something else initially. I would consult with your physician. I have heard there are strange side effects.

Keeping your mind busy will help with the anxiety. Trust me I know. Read around the site some, I talked about my anxiety quite a bit. Exercise will also help.

Quitting is work !! But it can be done... as evidenced by all the bad ass quitters you see here daily...

STAY QUIT

Chantix can and does help with the symptoms but you got to WANT TO QUIT. I used it for the first couple of months of quit after 30 years of copenhagen. Day 91 and counting.

If you are having serious panic attacks or anxiety issues after the first few days you may want to consult your physician about Chantix or Wellbutrin. Neither of these contain Nicotine and they are intended as anti-depressents/anxiety meds for the withdrawal symptoms. I wouldn't normally recommend it, but if you are having legitimate panic attacks that may be the best route for you.

Most people have an increase of anxiety, and a few weeks of being severely pissed off, not sleeping, and constant craving. That's normal. If you are being crippled psychologically (not able to function day to day) you probably want to go see your doctor.

Good luck, you can make it through this. If you need anything you can hit any one of us up.

I'm skoal long cut straight's bitch, too. How do you get through the panic attack? Easy, tell yourself that you're quitting for the next hour and use sunflower seeds or gum or whatever it takes to keep the shit out of your mouth. Repeat when the next crave hits. Don't think about forever because the addict mind will convince you that forever is impossible for you and you might as well return to the can.

Glad to be quit with you.

Just flushed my can of Skoal Straight long cut down the toilet.  I am done with this shit.

I have been Skoal's bitch for the better part of 24 years.  Well no longer.  I am tired

of paying a fortune for the privilege of killing myself.  Tired of worrying about getting

cancer.  I am going to do whatever it takes to never put that shit in my face again.

I have tried a few times in the past, but when I woke up on the morning of my

quit day, I went into a full blown panic mode.  Anyone have suggestions for getting

through the anxiety?
READ READ READ READ- everything you can on this site.

Start with the cancer and Quitter stories, and read them all, Make sure you read the Tom and Jenny Kern story, follow the link to the caring bridge site and read thru her journal, read the comments added by his kids.

Go to the words of wisdom posts and start at the end and work forward.

There is enough knowledge in those threads to turn you into a quitting machine.

If you get in trouble go to chat and sing out, or post up in your group. I believe you'd be in May11. Chances are what ever thing your going thru a bunch of others are as well.

Lastly, whats a little anxiety? Beats the hell out of cancer. This isnt impossible, your gonna feel shitty from time to time, especially the first few days. Thats just the price your going to have to pay to earn your freedom.

Some things that def help are excercise, drinking alot of juice- ( you NEED to keep your blood sugar levels up), watch the caffiene ( it'll hit you harder). leave the booze alone ( its a proven quit killer in the beginning). Otherwise just relax, if you can quit for a minute then you can quit for an hour. If you can do an hour you can do a day. Wash rinse and repeat. Quit minute by minute if you need to. Like you I was 20 plus years of skoal. If I could do it so can you.
