It has been awhile since my last updates so I thought I would give some insights on how I have been able to plow through some times I thought would be tough.

Just returned from a two week trip to the UK. The 9 hour journey flight previously would have been filled with numerous dips, but was easily able to get through it (with the help of SM packets). Returned and had no troubles either.

Upon return got rid of the Smokey Mountain. Realized didn't really need that either.

This weekend was tough. Thanks to the sage advice from many on this board about the temptations lurking on a long weekend, I was able to stand strong. Yard work ( no problem - but several thoughts of how this was the most enjoyable time to dip) and golfing with my baseball buddies, all of who are still serious dippers (or dip shits). That was probably the most difficult as they continued to try get me to have just one. Without this support group, I can visualize how that would have been an easy cave moment.

Just staying quit one day at a time. Thanks to all the fellow quitters and supporters.

Day 22. First day of travel with no dip. Went surprisingly smooth. No urges. No panic. I could have not done this well without support from fellow quitters. Thanks for all of the advise and support along the way. Keeping on with the quit One damn day at a time.

Now beginning to focus on the weight gain, as this is really beginning to piss me off. I have gained 12 pounds since I quit. I have been working out 5 days a week but kept on gaining.

Special shout out to Doc, MCO, zquitter, yetmig, jayd41, brettlees and everyone who has shown support.
Keep it going, nice work! many victories on the way to day 22!

As for the weight, the mantra around here is a few pounds after some months of quit is easier to lose than cancer. That's the bottom line. Forgive yourself. AND, i follow a sort of "paleo" diet- try to cut all sugar and all grains/flour. When I fell off that wagon, sure enough I gained. If I stayed true, my weight was not a problem despite what I ate. You are already exercising so maybe that's part of it. Again, though, keep your quit as your first priority becuase that's the most important thing for your health right now. Even bread and pasta was easier for me to give up than nicotine!

Keep up the great work, and keep building your quit-toolkit!

Well

Day 16 - and today is my first trip to the dentist in 30+ years where I won't have to floss, brush and rinse in the car before I go into the dentist office in order to get the dip leftovers out of my mouth prior to the visit. Also the first time I don't have some type of dip scar on my cheek and / or gums.

First time in a long time I am looking forward to the visit.
I can't wait for mine. Dentist watched me grow up, braces, sponsored my DYB team, college, move back, all that jazz. He'll be pumped that he doesn't have to mitigate the poison or wonder who to refer me to once I got cancer. I'll be proud to walk in his office a 45ish day quitter at my next appointment.
I was a ninja dipper, but I will have a berserker quit - Here's some encouragement

NEVER Ring the Bell! Watch this. It will change your life.

When a crave hits watch this.

"Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be Kind Always."

?Gentlemen, we are going to relentlessly chase perfection, knowing full well we will not catch it, because nothing is perfect. But we are going to relentlessly chase it, because in the process we will catch excellence. I am not remotely interested in just being good. ? ~ Vince Lombardi

"We all have our own demons that we face on a day to day basis. Some we can talk to others about. Some that we have to work through on our own. ...the nic bitch continues to knock on the doors my friends. Stay strong, stay vigilant." - Fireheeler; 6/11/14 in AUG14

Never cured, but quitting like this

What cost is too high?

Hey it's greAt to see your quit going well. Keep it up from another long-term nic slave. I wanted to say that I wrote about travel in my thread because I enjoyed it more than I thought I would early in my quit. The freedom from having to dose up for the addiction is amazing feeling. Get ready for some real joy if you can give yourself some positive perspective like that. Sure there will be craves but you no longer have to give in to them and you will have plenty of experience proving that point by then. Quit on bro!

Congrats on a new milestone, MU!
Hope it was all good news on the chompers.
Two thumbs up from the dentist. Gum levels okay, no mouth ulcers from constantly doing chew, 2 fillings that need replacing - but no major issues!

Wow - I used to dread going to the dentist - this is easier now!.

Next big challenge will come over the next couple of weeks. Have my first business trip scheduled for next week (yes - I used to dip on the plane). The following week is a 2 week business trip to the UK.

But until then - focus on quitting today and deal with tomorrow when it comes.
