Elro -

GREAT decision and glad you're here. You've taken the first step, let us help you with the rest. How to quit...

Post roll first thing everyday. Give your word that you will not put any nicotine in your body today. Then keep your word. Don't think about tomorrow, next week, next month or anything else. Nobody knows what the future may bring. We'll worry about that when it gets here. Just focus on the only thing your can control...what you're doing right now.

That is how quitting is done...one day at a time.

Yes, it will be tough. Anything worth doing is. Pills and patches are for pussies. We're a bunch of tough mother-fuckers who are serious about kicking the Nic Bitch's ass every day. Embrace the suck...the torture is the feeling of recovery. Welcome it. Remember it. And live free.

Everybody on here has felt what you're feeling. That is kinda cool...in a sick way. There are no short-cuts, nobody can quit for you.

Read everything you can on this site. Read the Kern family story. Read the contract. Exchange numbers with fellow quitters. Come up with a plan now for when you are really hanging on by a thread (hint - it won't be on Day 1). What are you going to do? Excercise, seeds, mints and staying glued to this site are what I suggest.

Glad you are here. You have found the right place. A lot of nicotine addicts have found the secret to overcoming their addiction here.

Cold turkey is what we do. No nicotine one day at a time. Posting roll is our committment to each other that we will not use for that day. Tomorrow, repeat. Don't worry about the rest of the week, month, year. Just keep the shit out of your mouth today.

You will find a lot of support here. Read everything. Stay close to the sight. Reach out if you are feeling week. Bitch at all of us the next few days when all you can think about is how to get your fix.

Nope, no easy way bro...strap on the straight jacket and hop into the rubber room...

It will get easier real soon, I promise!

Exercise, Sunflower seeds, gum, fake dip ( smokey mountain, hooch to name a couple)

Aw jees 30YR, I was hoping the gum and whatnot would make this roller coaster a bit easier to ride, but given ur SN i take it you have experince and will trust that, as non of my family members have ever been dippers. I wil take ur adivce and dump the rest, although I ran oout of chew tonight and had promised to quit after this can, so no need to worry about thrwoing that out .

Seeing as today will be the first day I go withot buying a can, any advice would be very helpful on how to begin.
Welcome Elrodog,

The first thing that you must understand is the nature of your addiction. You are addicted to nicotine. The only solution to that problem is to go through nicotine withdrawal. If you quit cold turkey that withdrawal takes 3 days....If you use nicotine gum, patch, losenges, that withdrawal will take 3 days from the time you stop using nicotine. When you are using any form of nicotine you are feeding your addiction...Nicotine Replacement Therapy is completely ineffective in treating nicotine addiction.

Throw out the gum, patch, lozenges...dump any remaining cans you have in the toilet and flush....grit your teeth and prepare for a wild 3 day ride...

Once you do this click on the WELCOME CENTER at the above left. Read all 7 of the items and learn about roll call. Your quit group will be March 2012 found here

Hello gentleman,

It with great pride today that I tell you i have 10000000% decided to kick the can. for myself and no one else. in the past I have made half ass attempts to quit due to family or girlfriends, but this time I am doing it for myself. any help or adivce would be greatly apprecated as I have never truly tried quitting before, I have niccorette gum and lozenges but dont know how to incorporate them into my quiiting schedule. which is about 1 can day since i was 17 ( im 23 now.) just thought id say hello and will check back often to hear what you all have to say and for support.

Thank you in advance,
