I know you'll succeed if you stay around here. GREAT DECISION!!
Truer words have not been spoken. Great choice flushing all the crutches, man-ing up and getting it done. What Husky said can't be said enough times. Stick close and you will get it done.

BTW - I'm in Broomfield and have 102 days free from a 24 year Nic addiction so you are definitely not alone.

coloradopomy here is my two cents worth for you....

I was a cope fiend for 35 years. Tried half dozen times to quit and lost the fight. I am now on day 380 cold turky. It was 3-4 days of pure hell geting the nic outta my body. Now we play the mind games. Not so often anymore, but they do pop up from time to time.

So my advice, throw it all away and get on with the quittin. You have a great supporrt system here at KTC. Non better anywhere else. You have all kinds of advice from every walk of life here. There is tough love for some and border line homo love for others (Smokey and TFurrh) In the end it's driven to the same end goal, NO NIC. P E R I O D!!!!!!!!

Welcome aboard

Good morning quitters.  I assumed this was a Cold Turkey site, but wasn't sure.  Sounds like several people leaned on gum or lozenges for a few days, but eventually bit the bullet.  Funny thing is, I had some breakfast with the family, popped a lozenge, and sat down to see what the responses to my post last night would be.  I guess Day 1 of nic free for me will be April 5, 2009.

I appreciate the tough love, and understand that eventually an addict needs to be nic free.  However, I am one proud mother fucker that copenhagen hasn't touched my lips for damn near 2 weeks.  Everyone needs to be careful analyzing individuals who have been copenhagan dependant for over two decades.

As for anymore Chicago Bears fans, bring lots of tissue with you to your games.  Between you and Cutler, there will be lots of tears.  What a pussy Cutler is.  At 17-20, he isn't even a winning quarterback.  Lovey Smith will never allow Cutler to throw for 4000 yards again.

Peace out Quitters.
Yo, coloradopomy, you should be proud of yourself!

I am proud too that this Tuesday will be 21 days without putting fucking Kodiak in my mouth. My quit date however, will be 7 on Sunday, because that's the day I stopped the gum.

Nobody told me so. I could have used any date I wanted to. I'm a little pissed I'm "officially" only 7 days, when I could say, look at me I'm at 21 days. But I dunno, I realized pretty quickly it was better to be totally nic free and that's my own choice. Don't worry I got some pretty strong opinions on the subject earlier in the week.

Don't take it personal, and don't let it break down any of your own accomplishments, just know that the strong opinions on here are for one reason only. To get you/us to stay clean, forever.

21 years and 5 months ago, I experienced my first buzz from chew.  I fell in love with it.  I remember vowing that I would chew forever.  In 1997 I tried to quit.  I fell off the wagon 3 months later.  On 3/23/09, I again declared myself a quitter.  Today was day 11, and one of my toughest days yet.  I decided to google "quit chewing" and stumbled upon this site.  I know I need a support group that is made up of others in my shoes.  I really want to stay quit, and I am ready.

Although I have not put a chew in my mouth, I have been using the nicotine lozenges.  I have been popping about 5 per day.  They have really helped to curb my mood and appetite swings.  When do I go cold turkey???  The box says 12 weeks, but I know I am tougher than that.  Am I kidding myself to think I can ween myself off of these within another week or so???  Thanks for those of you who have already welcomed my to the club.

Coloradopomy aka Jeff -

Great decision. We need more Colorado quiters too (there's a ton of us here). There's a tobacco sales rep that covers CO and is losing lots of money lately.

It's a long conversation, but I would advise cold turkey as these guys are saying. When you use nic gum or whatever, it makes for a long, slow, drawn out period of getting the nic out of your system...body constantly in withdrawl from it. If you go cold turkey, 3-4 days and your done with the nic.

Shoot me an IM if you want to discuss this further, but my vote would be cold turkey. I too am a 21 yr (mostly cope) Colorado quitter. I have tried it both ways, with aids (gum/patch) and cold turkey. Let me know if I can help you.

You'll find tons of support here. Spend a lot of time reading everything you can here  getting to know some guys.

Yeah after I posted I thought I got the names wrong. Too foggy to correct. I stand corrected, though, but my advice is first hand and meant for everyone else!

Husky, I came on here last Sunday, about 12 days into my quit but still using the gum. I dunno, son, but when I mentioned I was using the gum, I didn't get the reaction you got. I got my fucking ass kicked!

I wasn't really sure why. But then I started reading some of the stuff on here, posts like you just got, and realized, yeah, the gum was just another nicotine crutch, even though it was very sporadic. And based on the physical reactions I got after dropping the gum, 6 days ago, you can fucking bet, it's doing alot more to your brain than you think.

My advice? Bite the fucking bullet. Throw the stuff away and go, cold turkey. I am on like day 17, 18 of no dip, but I use 6 as my quit date, because that's the last time I ever used any nicotine.

It hurts. I'm sick. My head hurts. But I don't want any other stimulants in my body.

Do what you gotta do, but I say go it alone. Some of these other vets can probably do a better job than me explaining it.
