Thanks for all the support. As I read back on that day 1 post, I never could have imagined all of this. At 500 days, with the seasons flowing for the second time, it really is amazing to observe and reflect on my life and relationships. I was far too foggy last year to appreciate the changes and perhaps by next year the memories of my life controlled by nicotine will fade. But I know my quit is solid because of the support and lessons I have learned from each of you at KTC. Brotherhood. Accountability. Success - One day at a time. CJ
Don't be afraid.  You are not alone.

Quote from: ChristopherJI've been dipping for many years and have tried to quit multiple times but never made it more than a couple months - usually just days. But I read the book called the Power of Habit. The author says that to break a habit/addiction you can't do it on your own. You need a community. Well I'm scared and I want to quit and I need some help. I am not good with computers, no Facebook etc. this is the first time I've posted on a board. Thanks in advance for anyone who takes time to reply. I'm not the type of person to ask for help but I don't want to fail again and tell myself stories. Yes I'm worried about cancer. And also worried and ashamed of what I might put my family through if it happens. I've got a favorite band that has a song that goes "I will change tomorrow, tomorrow I will change". That's what I've been telling myself for years. No more.
500 days!!!

Above is your first post. You are a different man than when you typed this. It is an honor to quit with you on one of the biggest of milestone days today. Enjoy, and celebrate!

Quote from: ChristopherJA friend of mine sends this to me every New Year's Eve and I thought it was worth sharing in my intro. Maybe its not directly about quitting, but if I look at how I try to live my life now that I am quit, I see the possibilities of meeting some of the aspirations in this poem.

Happy New Year!

"Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy."

How does 400 feel?!?

Congratulations on a big milestone. Half comma coming up, and I bet life feels a little better each and every day. Thanks for all of the support along the way!

Stranger999

ChristopherJ, congrats on the milestone and thanks so much for posting on my introduction thread and keeping me focused. Reading through the older threads here is really inspiring to me And seeing some former caved quitters on the December roll reminds me that I need to check my nuts every day and make sure I never stop. Everyone who posts here and didn't cave makes me more confident.

I am proud to quit with you today my friend. B)B

Quote from: ChristopherJThanks for all the kind words and support. There is no way I would be here today, a year quit , without my wonderful KTC community. Hitting HOF was exhilarating. Reaching one year is more of a quiet calm and serene confidence that I can continue this state of freedom one day at a time. Quit with you all today!
Congrats man. Sorry I'm late. Check your PM.
Hell yes! 1 year that's awesome, congratulations!
