Absolutely ZERO ability to focus on shit ALL FUCKING DAY!!!!! I went to pick up groceries I forgot last night, ended up just staring in to no mans land for god knows how long, register guy woke me from my trance "Hey MR!!!!!!" There's very few thoughts in my head right now that arent about dipping......What the fuck was wrong with my and why the fuck did I choose to do this shit at the oh so experienced age of 15. Id like nothing more than to whip 15 year old me's ass up and down the street.
Stick with it bro, it does get better. I quit with you today!
Keep the intake of water going. It will help with tons of the symptoms. Dark Chocolate helped my focus and my depression a bit. I used eye drops to help with itchiness....I couldn't tell if it was withdraw or sinus/allergy issues.
Yeah have been pounding the water, some made a good point about juice (cranberry, pomegranate) didnt think of that. Havent been thinking of much lately lol. Yesterday was bad got beat by a headache/migraine not sure what it was but hurt like fuck. Woke up in good shape today just taking it easy.
Excellent! I kept powerade nearby. I also hit vitamins Like Omega 3 to increase the oxygen in my blood. Multivitamin for overall health. The worst for me was vision. My eyes because so cloudy and full of goo. Absolutely crazy how that was bothered by the chew.

Unlike quitting products, total adherence to a personal commitment to not violate the law of addiction provides a 100% guarantee of success. Although obedience may not always be easy, the law is clear, concise and simple - no nicotine today, not one puff, dip or chew!

Day 2 - Work Day 1:

I figure this day to be rough as work is the core of my comfort zone. Started the day off right by making a the promise to myself as well as my fellow "quits" and did my roll call.

@6 am - started day as usual, no signs of urges. Loaded up on my morning vitamins and headed off to work. Successfully made my first good decision by passing my local convenience store and continued on to work. Already winning this fight.

@7 am - Encountered my first urge of the day due to triggers, decided to continue making changes to completely throw off my normal routines in an attempt to stage off future urges and took all my uniforms out of my locker and put them in my car in order to get fully dressed at home instead of in the locker room but as for today will need to make due. At this point I'd scale my urge a 4/10 it's more or less a nagging telling "something is missing" but able to combat it by telling myself "that's not how we do things anymore"

@740 am - I have my first real hurdle, found out I was not suppose to work today due to me being on the schedule for Saturday shift. My mind is elated and begins to plead with me "hey, good news my friend!!!! This means you can put all this foolishness behind you and start quitting tomorrow" not today my dedication is unwavering and my motivation to quit is still high at a 10/10.

@1 pm - my urge level is still at bay coming in at a 4/10, it's the constant nagging from my mind that's wearing me down but not enough to make me even ponder dropping what I'm doing to head to the store. Small breaks, taking things slower than I normally would and just taking time to read other "quits" testimonies as well as deep breathes are helping out immensely. I finish lunch and am now being confronted with the largest urge I've faced today, it's not overwhelming but enough I needed to leave the lunch room as once the food was consumed many fellow technicians began to indulge in their tobacco products at the table, motivation is still at a high 10/10. I returned to my work area and load back up on my vitamins.

@230 pm - urges have subsided greatly back down to a 4/10 but still constant. No matter what I do its just there. At this point they have not deterred my drive to continue on but have brought my production level to a stand still as the fog has now completely overwhelmed me and I have no desire to finish any repair I have. Home is a mere 1 hour away and once home I'm hoping urges will be easier to deal with as home does not have any of my triggers.

Great plan, man!

Add some sweat, lots of H2o and trident gum to keep your mouth in cadence.

Grab some numbers from guys in your group and don't ever miss roll call.

Knowing the triggers is half the battle.

Welcome!

Hey Swilderbeast, good to have you aboard the June train with us. Listen to the vets here, they have a proven track record and the system works. All the vitamins and stuff are great, so long as you get that gorilla off your back. That's the first and most important reason you ended up here, same as the rest of us. Stick to posting your promise to your brothers every morning, first thing and keep that word for 24 hours. If you can do that one day at a time, you are off to a great start. Otherwise that can of worm dirt doesn't care how many vitamins you take, her cancer vitamin trumps them all. Great start and I am proud to quit with you today!

Let's begin:

This is my Day 1, unfortunately it is not my first Day 1 but I am hoping it will be my last. I am 33 years old and have been dipping/chewing since I was about 15. In the following I would like to document everything I experience and everything that triggers my urge for dip in order to end this disgusting habit. If you find any of this helpful or have any feedback positive or negative I greatly appreciate it.

What I foresee as my biggest hurdles:
#1: Work - Why work? I am a diesel mechanic, many others in my field of work either smoke or dip so it will be a constant reminder. Over the years dip has become a major mental crutch for me and I believe this will be my greatest weakness. From the moment I get to work I can feel the urge begin, I get changed in to my uniform and the urge intensifies, sometimes I will not even tie my boots before heading out to my toolbox and putting in a dip.
#2: Routine - I am a creature of habit (no pun intended). The easiest way I get settled in to my routine is by clocking in on my W.O., setting out the tools I will need, putting in a dip and getting to the task at hand.
#3 - Stress Relief - Working in the field I do brings many stressful moments whether from a repair not going the way I would like it to, a customer not satisfied with repair/results, or dealing with warranty.
#4: Idle Moment - Coming home after work and just getting over the stresses of the day dip has played a major role. Getting relaxed on the couch with T.V., computer, or whatever dip has always been part of that relaxing equation.

So these will be my biggest challenges to overcome, weekends I do not foresee as a problem being the only time I dip is out of boredom or if I'm doing home repairs/maintenance.

I have done some research (and I use that term loosely as I have google searched what withdraws do to the body on a chemical level) and have come up with a few nutritional supplement and dietary changes I will be making to help with days 1 through 3, and then days 4 through 20. My first goal is days 1 through 3 (obviously), and how I will approach dealing with the bodies withdraws.

Vitamins I will be using:

Vitamin C - At this time I have not found research that shows dipping causes the same issues (of course 99% of research is all about smoking) but people who use nicotine deplete their Vitamin C levels more than twice as fast as those who do not. Signs of Vitamin C deficiency include dry and splitting hair; gingivitis (inflammation of the gums) and bleeding gums; rough, dry, scaly skin; decreased wound-healing rate, easy bruising; nosebleeds; and a decreased ability to ward off infection.

Fish Oil - Or Omega 3 have shown to decrease smokers urges by 11% versus a placebo. A deficiency in omega-3 damages the structure of nerve cells and interrupts communication between nerves in areas of the brain involved with feeling pleasure and satisfaction.

Niacin - I have always been told Niacin is good for "flushing" the body of toxins. After researching Niacin I found it does have a lot of benefits when it comes to cholesterol, even found 1 instance of someone claiming Niacin actually reacts with the same nerve receptors that Nicotine reacts with and may support a decrease in cravings. When it comes to Niacin I will say it will make you "warm" possibly "tingly" and feel like an allergic reaction. My advise to is take small amounts at first and see how you react to it. I will be starting with 25 mg, giving it a few hours and adjusting from there. According to what I've read you should reach a feeling they call a "flush" feeling. Meaning your ears, nose, skin may redden but will feel warm and should last approx. 15-30 minutes. Again be very careful with the vitamin, if I do not have good results with it I may discontinue.

Multi-Vitamin - This will sound dumb but I've chosen to begin with childrens Flintstones vitamins, mainly because all the vitamin levels are generally low and I can add in individual vitamins if I feel one particular vitamin may have benefits if taken in higher doses, but the multi will give me a good base of multiple vitamins.

To wrap up I will be removing all caffeinated drinks (sodas, red bull, etc) I am an avid cold tea drinker (yes it has caffeine, but at much lower levels and no sugar). Also will be eating very plain, no frills food. I can be quite the health nut when I get to it so for me chicken and rice is something I can live off of for days at a time.

So here in my first day at roughly hour 8, the urges are high, the anger has already set in but I know this will end. Thank you and I will see you tomorrow.
The main hurdle and I would argue the only hurdle we face is the six inch space between our ears.....Join your quit group and post roll early early early each day.....so far in our may group the ones who have caved are the ones who slacked at posting roll.....no more thoughts of how good dip used to be....it wasn't, dipping was an embarrassment and a cancer causing poison that you used to put in your lip every day. You should only have negative thoughts towards dipping , your brain will believe what ever you constantly tell it....use this site , read read read all that you can...if you are having a bad day then let your group know it and they will knock some sense into you....quitting is only as hard as you want to make it....so make it as easy as possible
Hey Beasty, Your first and most awesome move was to come here to KTC. Your first screw up is that you think you have figured it out with all this shit you typed up here. No worries, we all do that. However, the map to quit is here and it is a very simple map. It is also proven. It is a straight line to your quit group and you getting to the same place every morning and typing in your name. Put your name there and tell all your brothers and sisters in your group that just for today you will not use nicotine. We call this "posting roll". Then keep your word. Read everything here for encouragement and help. Take all your vitamins too. However, KTC will keep you quit if you will get involved.
