Thanks Gump, feels good to make it a week. Partner is not ready to quit so I told him thats his deal but I'm done chewing.

The cavings are fewer in frequency but stronger than ever.....but I'm holding to my quit.

Thanks
P

Hey Quitters, my name is Pete and I've have been dipping for 17 years. Got up to 1.5 cans per day. Work in a zoo so I'm outside all day so dipping isn't a problem. Decided last week to stop and came across this website....its been great. Today is day 8 for me. I'm already noticing that my cravings are lessening, especially in the morning.
I'm fully committed to this Quit and look forward to my life without nicotine.

The down side is that my partner smokes....didn't realize how that was a strong trigger for me. He has agreed not to smoke in the house....trying to get him to quit but feel I need to be selfish and work on my quit first.

Thanks guys...day 8 here..and fell really good about it !!

Pete
How's it going Pete? One week plus is HUGE! Here's your "Fuckin' A!!".

Just a few words about your quit vs. your partner's smoking.

First of all, you're both addicts. Addicts are compulsive. Could anyone have forced you to stop dipping until you were ready? Oh, sure, if you cared about them you'd give it the ol' college try. TRY, get it?

When you're ready, when you DECIDE to quit, it's no longer a try. It's a DO. Pushing your partner to quit when he's not ready will result in a try at best. And it might well result in some very negative shit in your relationship, where one blames the other for either failing or succeeding but hating it.

Focus on YOUR QUIT. Your partner may never be ready. I think he made a pretty decent concession agreeing only to smoke outside. Sounds like he's supporting your quit, just remember you'll both be addicted to nicotine forever. You just won't be using.

Congrats on moving through that brutal first week. Stay vigilant.
