Thanks for the encouragement Gump. I do realize I'm ultimately responsible, regardless of what anyone else does. The person who made yesterday so difficult for me, was me.

I'm on board and in it for the longhaul. Hell, I haven't made it to day 4 in 15 years.

I went and made the last 24 hours exceedingly difficult. Outdoor barbecue last night - bad cravings. My wife lit up a cigarette in he car this morning because she "didn't think it would bother me." It did. After work today went with a buddy for a few beers and wings - bad cravings again.

To cap it off, the wife asked me to stop at the store and pick her up a drink on the way home. Needless to say the local convenience store carried every brand of dip known to man. I just thought I could by a can, have one dip and throw the can right in the trash. Very tempting.

I did not dip today, and now day three is pretty much in the books. I feel like I stared the nic bitch right in the eye and didn't blink.

Nevertheless, I think I'll stay away from barbecues, wing joints, and convenience stores for the time being, as well as remind the wife of what I'm going through. I don't think I need to put myself through that again, at least not this early in my quit.

On to day 4.
Buck, for the next few weeks, it's possible that damn near everything in life can be considered a "trigger" event, if you let it. Your wife lighting up a cigarette, your kid being a pest, your boss being a kid, etc.

This is why you quit for YOU primarily. Other people will piss you off, let you down, harsh your chi, whatever. But none of them are accountable for YOUR QUIT. That's up to you, my friend. You're doing great, it's really hard at first. One of the things to remember is never hang your quit on someone else.

Of course, they'll still piss you off, but instead of letting them have it, come in here and let US have it. Spare your friends and family.

I started dipping about 22 years ago. I dipped occasionally for a while, and became a steady 1 can (at least) a day addict by 1994. I had “tried” to quit on several occasions always with the same result. Some quits lasted longer than others, but most didn’t make it past day 2.

I had my last dip (Skoal Longcut Wintergreen) on Tuesday, October 20, 2009, around 9 pm. I had been checking out this site for a few days and just decided right then that it was the time. Wednesday morning I threw out the remainder of my can, emptied the remaining spitters from my car, and IÂ’m now midway through my second day of freedom.

ItÂ’s nice to have a place where people understand what youÂ’re feeling and going through. Thanks for the support youÂ’ve already provided. These have been the longest two days of my life, but I feel good.
Excellent post Buck. Welcome!

You are 100% correct - we have all walked in your shoes and have become far better for finding this place. Stick close and read all you can. You can do this. Post roll every morning as soon as you can and take the NIC option off the table for 24 hours.

One day at a time gets it done.
