Roman-Welcome! I dipped for 30 years and am on my Day 4 Quit. I am Quit with you. I've had a lot of fog and not sleeping but I post Roll Call every day and could not have made it this far without doing so. Post Roll Call first thing in the morning and if there is anything I can do to help PM me. We are Quit with you. Today I posted Roll Call and today I am Quit. Peace

Welcome aboard Roman, I pray for you. This is going to be the hardest thing you have ever gone through. It sure has been for me. But you have the support of everybody here. I thought I was in this alone until I found this site. Boy was I wrong. Make sure you post roll and keep your head high. The next few days are going to be rough. Bring your concerns and vent here.

Thanks Guys..

I appreciate the encouragement and prayers..

Praying for you all as well..

I think there are two lies we tell ourselves. And I think they feed each other and keep us "in the pit"..

- I can do this alone..
- No one else has this problem..

Months ago I realized I couldn't do this alone.

As of this morning I realized the second lie is a lie also. Not that misery loves company.. I don't wish this on anyone.. But, that even in this case:

"No temptation has overtaken you, except that which is common to man.."
and
"Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world."

Thanks again...

Mark

Hi Folks,

My name is Mark.. Forum handle is "Romandog", a nickname I got when I was in the Navy years back. 49 years old, I'm a programmer  database admin at a hospital in Illinois. Started using Skoal when I was 18.. Just like most folks here, I had "tried" to quit nicotine "hundreds of times". Tried all of the ways to get off this stuff.. Patches, gum, mint snuff, herbal snuff..

I'm convinced the only way for me to beat this is to just "embrace the suck" and go "cold turkey."

Wasn't planning on quitting this morning.. Just found this site "by accident" (via God's providence).

After reading a number of the posts I knew I had no excuse. Today is the day.. I felt that if I put it off, even one more day, I would never get off of it.

So, yes, I feel like dog meat. Yes, my head hurts, no, I can't think, yes, I'm agitated  figiting constantly today.

But if you folks can take this nicotine slave master on and beat him, and keep beating him.. Every day.. And make it stick..

Then I know he can be beat and by God's grace I'll beat him too...

I hate the way this sucks... But I like the way this sucks too. And I wish it would suck more.. Because I know this means my body is healing..

And I've go not room to complain anyway. No one forced that first chew in my mouth so long ago. I did it to myself.

Thanks for "going before" and showing me the way.

Mark

Hello Romandog  Welcome. You are not alone buddy and these first few days will be pure hell. Stay committed, spend time reading on the site, find something other than carcinogens to stick in your mouth when the craves kick in. Quitting ain't easy but it's a hell of a lot more do-able when you got some quit brothers going through the same trials and tribulations. Feel free to PM me if you ever need anything and welcome to the Suck.

It does get better, I promise.
I quit with with you all!
