Wow..

14 days! Never thought I would see this. Awesome!

Feels so good to be off of this stuff!

Told my wife yesterday that I had been quit since Mon, April 18.. She was ecstatic! So good to see her happy. Said she has been worrying constantly about my getting some form of cancer.

She was on her way out to do grocery shopping, asked me if she could get me anything.. "Gum" of course.. So I have a lot of various flavors of gum now! :D

No need to thank us, we all help each other. The day 1 guy helps the day 500 guy just as the day 500 guy helps the day 1 guy. You will come to understand this as you acquire some time.

Good quit man, keep it up!

Reflections on a week of QUIT!!!

Wow.. A week ago tonight I was pre-quit.. Using Skoal, wondering if I would every be free from it's grip..

To be quite honest, I was almost at that point of resignation where you just don't care anymore. I had tried so many times to shake this off, so many different schemes.. But I kept caving in.

Never in my wildest dreams did I think that a week later I would have gone 7 days without poisoning my body with nicotine.

Last Monday morning when I stumbled upon this site, I really wasn't sure that I was going to sign up initially.. After reading a number of posts from folks who have been quit for a long time, as well as some of the posts from people who caved and came back, I realized this is exactly what I needed.

Last week was difficult.. The fog was thick.. I was pretty much useless at work Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday..

There are so many people and things that helped me make it through the "no man's land" of the first three days..

- So many people's encouragement.. Messages, phone calls, chat, roll posts.. What an outpouring of support. I have never experienced anything like it ANYWHERE..

You ALL are totally, absolutely, mind blowingly AWESOME!!!!

- "Embrace the suck".. Just even that saying.. Helped me realize that it wouldn't last forever..

- Thankfully, my boss is an ex-smoker, so she understands the fog, irritability, irrationality, etc.. Tuesday was particularly bad. I was almost non-functional.. Really... It was that bad.

- She also arranged for me to have unlimited access to forum.killthecan.org at work. Normally these sites are blocked or limited by quota time. This was so helpful.

Unfortunately, I was still functional enough that I got irritated with several co-workers, and generally was a jerk. So the Tornado of Jackassery title fits personally as well. After my boss explained that I was off tobacco, and I apologized, things were better, but everyone was giving me a wide berth on Thursday and Friday.

I don't recommend this as a strategy to get out of meetings, btw...

Friday evening my Hooch herbal substitute order arrived.. It has helped a great deal.. I know there is a considerable amount of debate about whether this actually weakens the resolve or helps to fight off the urge. Personally, I have found it helpful to keep the urge to use tobacco at bay..

I know I have a long way to go.. I know that at least in this life, I will deal with this EVERY DAY, and have to make that choice and that promise that I will be QUIT, every day, for the rest of my life.

But this site has given me the tools to do that..

Don't worry... I'm here for the duration.. As long as the Lord gives me life and breath..

I just wanted to pause and say thanks to everyone.

Day 5 is going pretty well.. Fairly clear skies, no fog to speak of..

I know this enemy of my body and soul, while beaten back, is only licking it's wounds and will attack sooner or later with all of the fury it can muster..

And when that happens, I will again show no mercy, and make no provision for the flesh..

But right now, at this very moment... This is great!

Thanks for being there..

Enjoy the good days and use them to rest up for the battles ahead. I used to love the occasional good day early on. It gave me a glimpse of what the future holds.

Keep fighting.. it is worth it !!!

Romandog- I dipped for 30 years. When I was on my Day 1 Quit I could not imagine what the Day 3 and Day 4 Quitters were going through. It seemed like they were so far away. Now I'm on Day 7 and I'm looking Back at my Days 3 and 4. I don't know why that gives me such a great feeling but it does. Honored to be Quit with you. Today I posted Roll Call and today I am Quit. Was talking with Ryan and Troy today,

And it dawned on me that my brain had been pretty much pickled in nicotine for the last 31 years..

Aside from all of the money I wasted and the opportunities I blew by allowing myself to be chained to this beast..

That's just so messed up!

Thanking God for you all and this site..

Day 4 quit..

Flying in and out of the clouds today. Glad I filed the IFR flight plan and am on vectors from Veteran KTC Controllers who are not asleep in the tower.

Mark,

You are about to experience the benefits of life without nic, and trust me it's great! It took me until day 10 in my quit to get a decent nights sleep, YMMV. Great job on the quit, keep it up.

Glad to be quit with you,

Wow...

Two days Quit in the bag and working on Day 3 Quit.

In an out of the fog/clouds.

I can breathe again.. Sometimes I wonder why I didn't die in my sleep from all of the congestion this garbage caused.

Wonder how much sleep I was really getting to begin with.

Was so used to using Skoal and "powering" my way through the drowsiness to stay up. Evidently this is pretty common. Last night about 8:30 PM the need for sleep came on me so powerfully I hurried to bed so I wouldn't collapse on the way.

What nasty stuff this was...

Woke up about 1:30.. read more on the site.. Looked at the mint/herbal stuff.. May try some.. Last time I even got this far I used the Mint snuff.. That was in 1998. Actually made it a week but didn't stick with it.

Thanks for being there and going before... Stay quit.
