Welcome, SmokeEater! You and I hold some similarities, so I thought I'd post up here.

#1 I, too, joined this site after a good while quitting on my own. A few were skeptical, but soon learned I was serious about my quit. Mostly, I found awesome folks here that will help you out any time. And I do mean ANY time. This place and the folks here have saved me many times.

#2 I'm also a volunteer FF. Quitting nicotine in that environment is a whole challenge in itself. Nicotine use is rampant in the fire service. There are many here that understand your predicament. Some of us share thoughts in the Fire Station Thread. Come on by anytime.

Get acquainted with folks here. Get some phone numbers of other quitters. Build a support network. Accept that we are addicts. Post roll everyday. Reach out when you need to.

Smoke, you are getting support from some true advocates of Quit!
It's a little intimidating posting to an existing group, but I would recommend you jump right in if you are ready to take your Quit farther. We all are addicts and you'll find our stories are 90% the same. Very likely that no one will understand or support your quit like we will.

Smoke, sounds like you're a badass quitter man.

About the stress thing, nicotine never helped you with stress. YOU assigned stress relief to the action of ingesting nicotine. YOU can assign it to something else.

You said you did contract work. If you hired some dude to hang drywall, and he couldn't hang it straight and was constantly poking holes in it, oh... and KILLING YOU, you would re-assign his functions to someone else, right?

Well re-assign stress reduction to something else because the only thing nic is good at is f'n you up bro. You're in charge, and you're doing great.

Hey Smoke - I'm over in Feb 2012. Which, as bigwhitebeast says, is where you are at if you have been 100% quit of all nicotine since 11/1/11. We have a strong group. Check your inbox (upper right).

Bigwhitebeast is right. If you have been quit since November 1st, 2011, then your quit group is February 2012. Go post your number of days quit, which will be 99 days quit as of February 8th, 2012. Your February brothers will support you. You have already done so much on your own and the support you will receive here will only help you as you go deeper into your quit.

Welcome Smokeeater, how many days are you in? One of the things we do here is post roll call promising that we will remain quit for today. For directions on posting roll call look Here

If you quit back on 11/1/11 then your groups would be February 2012 and they can be found Here

The beautiful thing is you are closing in on 100 days quit if you have been 100% completely nicotine free since November, no patches, no nic gum, no cigs, etc.

Also the chat room is good for support also, I am a newbie so I don't have a lot to offer other than the fact that I am sure you remember the first few days of your quit and you probably would agree you don't want to go through that again.

Still feeling the pain
« on: February 08, 2012, 02:53:00 AM »
Hey all, I decided that since the career path I have chosen does not allow me to dip, my health insurance has gone way up, my pockets are empty, and I want to live a lot longer. So I made a bet with a few friends back on 11/1/11 that we would all quit and so far im the only one that has stuck to it. I have been having cravings every few days lately due to stress i believe. I do general contracting, go to school full time to get my bachelors and I am a Vol. Firefighter. The stress has just piled up and the cravings are getting worse and worse. All today i have been in a near fit of rage but i still have not given in, then i found this website. I started dipping when I was 13 years old with my best friend while fishing, ill never forget the day (and how we both put a very substantial amount in and almost threw up and buzzed for hours). Though now I am only almost 21 I felt that it had gotten out of control. I was going through 25-30 cans a week, all my money was going to put gas in the truck and dip in my mouth. I stand here today dip free but hurting very badly, i can tell that I still need help.
