To answer SkoalMonsters question... I quit because except for a three year period when I quit before, I've been consistently dipping for the the past 21 years of my life. I'm almost 40 and I have plan to move to Arizona and retire by the time I'm 50. It would be nice if I was alive and still had my entire jaw when that day comes.

And yes, the fact that things are a little tight for me financially right now played a role in me deciding June 22 was the right day for me to quit instead of say, June 23 or 24 or 25 or....

One thing about me is I'm stubborn as a fucking mule. When I decide to quit, I know I'll quit. What I like about this site is is the comrodary that goes along with the support. Being able to bitch to a bunch of people who have already been through what I was going through. But I'm never going to dip again regardless. Being the most stubborn human on the plant has it's advantages.

That part about loving to dip? I was about 20 hours into quit day 1... i'd have sucked a tin of Kodiak's dick at that point if it had one.

I do have a question for the veterans... when I started dipping at 18, I kind of got my best friend doing it. I mean the man made his own choices but it wouldn't have been around him if it wasn't for me. He's about to have his first child, a son, and there is nothing I'd like to give that kid more than to get his Dad off the Bitch. Anyone have any suggestions on getting him in here? I already sent him the Facebook link. Part of me thinks I should be a pain in his ass but another thinks subtlety is better, remind him why he should quit and let him make up his own mind.

Thanks.

Had some serious stress going on yesterday.  Thanks to the guys in live chat for suggestion I get out an exercise.  Took the dog for a long walk around the lake.  By the time I got back the urge to dip was gone.  One week today.. thanks brothers!
That's what this site is about. And the best way to thank those who helped you is to get involved in helping others quit. Great work using the site and staying clean. Good to be quit with you today.

PS: I can't wait for you to get your HOF coin. On Skoal Monster's nickel, of course.
Thats how its done NJ, you don't do that shit anymore. so you do something else. Like take your Teacup Poodle Mr Fluffytush for a walk around the lake. Each trigger you beat and each crave you endure makes you stronger.

Maybe I pegged you wrong. We'll see................

Shawn,

Keep excercising/workout/walking/running---set goals for yourself--run a 5K --weight lose etc. My best times are right before, during and after excercise. This will help reduce craves every time.

Keep up the good work-----to quit is the only sane option for every day---especially today!

Peace Brother

Day 3. I found half a tin of tip under the seat of my car last night and was really fricken tempted. I just threw it out. I overslept by about three hours this morning and I have a pounding fucking headache.

Feels good.

Fuck this... I've gone this far. I am out from under the beast.

Hell if the cost of dip was the only thing that discouraged me from dipping, Id still be packing it in! I worried about the big C everyday and stressed out big time every time I got a sore or lesion in my mouth, plus being a slave to the shit, was enough for me to say the hell with it and quit sucking the nic bitches titties! You can do it Shawn, just take your quit one day at a time brother! Proud to be quit with you today. Nico

Shawn...you find your brand on sale tomorrow for let's say $1.50....what you going to do? Still going to want this quit?

Couple things I want to stress. You do not love dip. YOU ARE ADDICTED TO NICOTINE. Also, if this is only about the cost of a can...well you will soon find other things to slash from the budget. It is amazing how addicts can prioritize.

How much you want this quit Shawn???

I thought I would post this: http://killthecan.org/robs/ilikechewing.asp

It is called "I Chew Because I Like Chewing" It might be a good thing for a guy that loves to chew to read.

I got it here: http://killthecan.org/robs/

Some goo stuff to get you started.
That's a good little article. I used the excuse "Yeah, but I like dipping" for a long time. The thought popped into my head several times yesterday while I painted the kitchen with no dip. Popped into my head today, too, just because the nicotine--which has by this point left my body--felt like fucking with me. But I really like the article. We don't enjoy dipping, we dislike not dipping. Whoever wrote that is a smart person.

WHY I DON'T ENJOY DIPPING
1. Increases my risk of cancer
2. Expensive (Cope costs about $8/can here)
3. Have to hide it from my fiance and friends
4. Spilled spitters
5. I've accidentally taken a swig off my spitter
6. Stains my teeth
7. Gum recession
8. Often makes me feel a little sick
9. Constantly asking whether I should spit or swallow
10. Have to arrange time in my day to get a fix

Congrats on your quit, Shawn. These first days suck, but like I keep reading on this site, we've only gotta do them once. And don't let that misconception that you love dipping get the best of you.
