Hello,
I found this website while surfing You Tube. I have been wanting to quit for many years but haven't had much success. I started over 30 years ago when my daughter was born because I didn't want to smoke around her and I've been dipping ever since. I dip Skoal fine cut and have never varied from that brand. I've tried to go to cheaper brands to save money but most of you will relate that nothing else tastes right when you're used (addicted) to a certain brand. I've got a dip in my mouth as I type this. I've got nicotine gum in the bathroom ready for me if I could get past the false starts.
I'll tell you a funny story if you'll indulge me. Back in 2008 I took a trip to Rome and Greece with some other teachers and students. I packed my Skoal in my sneaker because I would have been embarassed if it had been seen during screening at the airport. Anyway, I'd packed some nicotine gum with me in my carry on backpack. I lived on that as best I could until my luggage finally showed up in Greece a week later. How many of you can imagine my ecstasy when I finally got a dip! I rationed that can carefully the remainder of the trip. Placing just a small amount in my mouth so I wouldn't have to spit.
I've been at this over 30 years now. The only time I don't dip is when I'm asleep.
I'm ready to go at this and this site might help. Tell me how to get with my quit group and I'll give it my best shot. Skoalman.
Are you really ready? I may be reading into your post too much, but it sounds to me like you kinda sorta wanna quit, you know, if its convenient and doesn't hurt too much. You think we're here to make it hurt less.
You're wrong. This is one of the toughest things you'll ever do, with or without this site. Its gonna be absolutely miserable for the next 3 days. Its gonna be really hard for 3 weeks, and your not gonna be yourself at all for at least the next 3 months. Even then, you're not going to be "cured." You'll still be an addict.
That said, it is very possible. I have not had one in 452 days. Their are people here with many, many more than that. And there are also people who just quit this week and are already feeling the benefits.
Quitting is doable, but it takes commitment. You gotta work through those tough times, because once you get a glimpse of the other side, you'll know it too.
Tip #1: Toss everything, including the gum. Breaking the nic cycle requires removing the drug from your system entirely. Its not pleasant, but is necessary. Its over in about 3 days, unless you reintroduce the drug, even once. Then the 3 day clock starts over.
Welcome to your quit. If you are serious, shoot me a PM, and let me know how I can help.
