Don't worry about the weight losing...about too much candy...too much gum or anything else. Just beat the nic bitch, and then we'll worry about the other stuff later
I gotta agree with this. You are battling a serious chemical ADDICTION (nicotine). If it takes a few bad HABITS (fake, seeds, toothpicks, straws, twinkies, whatever) to help you along the way, so be it. Once your battle against your ADDICTION gets more easily manageable (note: I didn't say cured...), I think you'll find breaking those HABITS much easier after kicking the nicbitch's ass.

I used fake for a little while, seeds for a longer while and gained 10 pounds in my first 50 days. By 100 days, I lost the 10 pounds and pretty much kicked the junk food, fake and seeds habits (except seeds from time to time, not often).

If you can avoid all those things and still quit your addiction, great. But you damn well better stuff any of those other things in your face before nicotine if it comes to that, because caving just isn't an option.

On day 9 after 20 years of consistant dipping. I'm using Lent to get back in the gym regularly, lose weight and finally quit dipping. In the past, I've usually dipped to curb any extra snacking when bored. I've been with the same woman since college and she's been around since I began dipping regularly so it's not that I ever had to hide my habit.
I'm not using any of the fake mint leaf dips, nicotine patches or nicotine gum. I just went cold turkey last Tuesday night. I don't want to chew gum /or eat sun flower seeds all day long. Does anyone have any suggestions to curb my old oral habits? I'm drinking much more water  black coffee now that I'm not dipping during the day. My will power is good. I'm past the bitchy phase but I'm still jittery most of the day. I'm in a high rise 50 floors up in a corporate office so it's not like I can go take a long walk or drive easily.
Thanks  good luck to all.
I used hooch for a few weeks after I quit and then wound up quitting that the same way I quit the real stuff which was by just not buying any more after I ran out. I don't have the discipline to chew gum...after 5 chews I swallow it without even thinking about it as if it is food. After finishing eating a bag of seeds this week, I have decided I don't like seeds either...However, I have found chewing on the toothpick end of one of the little disposable flossers keeps me entertained during the day.

For the first month or so though, I noticed a significant increase in my caffine intake as well. You will balance out.

Congrats and welcome! This is just my thoughts, but I would not hesitate to use seeds or gum or whatever. Yes the oral fixation issue will require attention and you can begin to alter it by using different things. The main thing is your addiction to nicotine. I choose to address that first. As I progressed through my quit, the oral fixation issues became less of an issue and was easier to deal with then.

And yeah, Tarpon, some people have mentioned the toothpick thing, I think some people even make their own flavoring for toothpicks. Just keep fighting. Thanks for being here, you make my quit stronger.

Welcome to the club dog!

There is no wrong answer, some use fake, seeds, gum, candy, coffee stirrers, popsicle sticks, or a combination of all. Whatever it takes to keep the nic out of your face is all we ask. Best to get your plan in order so when the craves hit you know what you're going to do. Weekends are big time triggers so figure it out.

I remember someone mentioning some kind of flavored toothpick like thing.....anyone??

You've made a great decision, PM if you need anything!
