I want to talk about a word i see all over this site, Freedom. But what does it mean? I know what the dictionary definition of freedom is, but what does it mean to each of us. Is it freedom from nicotine? That's a thing I guess, but that seems too vague. What specifically are you free from? We're free from the $5 a day habit, but for me, and I imagine many others, the money is only a small fraction of my reasons for quitting and I know I couldn't quit just to save the money. As I think about it, a couple things do come to mind. I am free from the embarrassment of trying to hide it from friends, family, and co-workers. I am free from having spit cups around the house. I am free from having to check to see if i have enough chew to last till morning, and if not, get out and drive to the store and buy more. Free from wondering if i have tobacco in my teeth, or if my breath stinks, or if my teeth are yellow. Another thing I don't have to do anymore is hide my chew in my sock or underwear; or make repeated, unnecessary trips to my vehicle to get a chew. So the more I think about it, there is a definite physical freedom, but for me, the mental freedom is just as significant.
