Anyone else used their quit to leap off into an even more healthy life?

I'm waiting till my HOF day before I take any more major health leaps, but I'm curious what you guys did, how long you waited, why you did it.
dont wait on anything in life do it now! yes addict speak is a thing, but so is procrastination. i was already getting into weight training but with my quit i doubled down. Days after my quit day i signed up for a spartan endurance race for June.  started rewiring my brain and bought philosophy books. spring boarded into podcasts and motivational speeches every morning of my quit that i still do at day 112. you got this man . just remember time waits for no man! GET IT i support you and know anybody can break past those mental barriers ! Also in the pursuit in distracts your mind from nicotine because you are reinventing yourself so its a win win.
Totally.  You see it all the time here.  It is like once you realized that you can do what you previously thought you could NEVER do - which is quit tobacco - then it is like the brain thinks - well, damn, what other superhuman strengths do I have?  How else can I make my life better?  Think of quitting as the start of a great journey.

So what have you guys done to improve other than the quit?

Well, I couldn't shake the crave, so i started getting fresh air, when the nic bitch would start playing.   That ended up being some really long walks....Couple miles.  That turned into 3-5 miles.   That turned into 'lets run'.  That turned into 5K and 10K's, just for the exercise.   Now I'm pissed if I cant do a 5K in less than a half hour.

People go WAY faster.  But I'm 52, and I don't think many 52 year old's can even do 3.1 miles, let alone in less than a half hour

So, somehow, kicking chewing tobacco turned me into a runner.   :)
52 here and I can do the 3.1, but at a walking pace, about 50 minutes.  My goal is to be able to do a sub 30 5k by end of the year.
Nice job guys!

Once I quit, I began to think about other things I consumed that weren't healthy and that were also addictions that needed to be addressed.  Except as a mixer (7up), I haven't had a soda for about 4 years.  And that is a big deal because I drank so many diet Cokes in a day - I really couldn't imagine scaling back let alone giving it up.  Now I don't miss them at all.  I also have dramatically cut back my caffeine consumption -  I used to overdo coffee - now I have one cup a day - maybe another half cup.  So with 0 Dt. Coke and far less coffee, my caffeine intake has been drastically reduced.   I have also cut back on sugar - it is a struggle still sometimes - but I use Stevia now as my main added-sugar substitute.   I still have a ways to go - diet, exercise, etc., but I now see everything as bad brain patterns, bad wiring, that can be undone and rewired in time.   And I know that if I just plow through, ODAAT, at some point my brain will rewire and won't scream out for these substances anymore.

P.S.  Now you all are inspiring me to get my butt in shape again!  :-)

Just one and you will be back to where you started, and where you started was desperately wishing you were where you are now.

" I realized that I saw my addiction as a wall, a big-assed wall, like the Great Wall. It was too high to climb, to thick to beat through, to deeply set to dig under, and too wide to go around. It had beaten me and I had to admit that I could not fight with it anymore. To get to the other side I had to turn my back on it, stop looking for the quick fix to get to the other side, and take the old first step on a 10,000 mile journey. I accepted that it would take many, many days before I could look back and not see that wall. That, it seems, was the difference."  - Dulouz Feb '04

The tools acquired here can be extrapolated out to other demons/addictions in our lives. One day at a time (ODAAT) can be applied to a lot more than just quitting nicotine.

A lot of people here have taken steps to remove other things from their lives like alcohol and caffeine in addition to creating a more healthy lifestyle through diet changes and/or exercise. There are tons of threads in the Non-Dipping Discussion section (within Wildcard and Getting My Act Together) that pertain to each of these areas of you are interested.
