I’ve been a can a day dipper for about the last 15 years.  Before that was on and off.  Career military pilot, now commercial pilot.  Dipping was pretty much part of the checklist for me.  I’m well into my 40’s now, and my reason for quitting is purely out of health concerns.  But, a question for the group; my tongue has been kind of burning the last few days, and I feel like my throat has a lot of mucus sitting in it.  Another concern with my tongue was I noticed even when I was dipping that I have what I believe is medically labeled as “geographic tongue”.  It scared me enough to quit.  I just hope it all goes away.  I typically go to the dentist once a year and they’ve never said anything, but I know it’s not normal.  Anyone else had tongue issues?  It’s sort of patchy looking, white etc.  I’m totally freaking myself out about it.  Also, sleep has been an issue, and I’ve had serious cravings.  I have chewed a few pieces of the nicotine gum, but have even tapered off that and just chew regular chewing gum just for the oral fixation.  This is probably one of the toughest things I’ve ever dealt with.  Seriously, I keep freaking myself out thinking I have oral cancer.
Welcome to KTC @DW. Have you made your way over to KTC on Discord yet?

Your concerns are certainly ones that have been shared/experienced by many folks here. While we can't offer you medical advice, anyone here would strongly recommend you go do your dentist (or find a new dentist) that will do an oral screening. 15 years is a long time and our bodies take time to heal from all that abuse. My best advice would be to stop using nicotine in ANY form, get plugged into a quit group over on Discord (the official KTC platform these days), and schedule an oral screening so there is a baseline for future checkups.

Also, I moved your post to our Introductions section. It will get more visibility here and seemed like an equally appropriate place for it.

@DW you never quit. You just had a stoppage. Have you decided you really want to quit? If so, there isn’t a better day than today to start taking back control of your life. It does suck for a while. But quitting ODAAT - one day at a time, and letting the days add up, it doesn’t take too long before you start to see light at the end of the tunnel. It is also so much easier quitting with others. Here is the link to start saving your life. https://discord.gg/9qXQcTHuhd quitting with others is soooooo much easier than trying to quit alone. It’s time to start.
