Don't forget to check out the HOF speeches while you're lookiing around the site. You'll find that there are all kinds of people who are successfully battling their addictions to tobacco, even people like YOU! Two new speeches by Sherriff and Eddykeller have just been posted.

I quit chewing Feb 3rd of this year through a local smoking quit group. I was the first chewer my instructor could remember in her 15 years of leading the group. I'm a beanpole type guy, and have been putting on a bit of a beer belly recently, which somehow led me to this sight. Anyways, I just wanted to congratulate everybody on their choice to quit and for realizing it's not something that you want to go at alone.

I'd tried to quit many times before, but it was always because my girlfriend wanted me to quit. I thought I could quit for her, but I couldn't. When I joined a support group, I said that my major reason to quit was for her. After much personal reflection, I realized I was finally at a point where I wanted to quit for me. Also, I had always made excuses for why I chewed: my dad smoked when I was a kid, my friends chewed in high school. A huge change in thinking that helped me quit was accepting responsibility for the choice to chew and accepting responsibility for the choice to quit.

Do it for you. If you want to quit for your wife, your girlfriend/boyfriend, whatever, forget them. You must care for yourself first. Be self-centered. People who truly care for you will appreciate your choice. By caring for yourself, you're caring for those who love you.
Welcome, Smokeyg! As I'm sure you realize by now, you've made a great decision in quitting chewing. Feel free to look all around the site and read the articles, Hall of Fame speeches, and the boards. Your quit group is May 2007, because it is made up of people who quit around the same time as you and reached 100 days being quit (known around here as reaching the Hall of Fame) in May of this year. You should learn about posting roll call when you get a chance. But you're still welcome to post in any of the quit groups or other boards on the site, including the cafe, which is generally a place to encourage new guests to quit using tobacco and join us in our fight about this addiction. Congratulations on your success so far!

Couldnt have said it better man! Welcome to the group and just work on today. The great thing about quitting is you get to kill the nic-bitch everyday and pay her back for all the crap she has caused over the years!!

You're absolutely correct. Quitting is something you HAVE to do for yourself. Many others can reap the benefits, but it HAS to be for oneself. Glad to hear you made the choice to be free of chew. And support is indeed a large part of it.

You will find a wide range of quitters here. From a few days quit to many hundred days. But we all come here for one thing. Support. Either to seek it or to lend it. And you are more than welcome to join our family.

I apologize for using this quit thread for something other than getting people to quit or saying good morning but I honestly had no other choice in my opinion.

I hope that I can be forgiven.
