So it's time for another coaching analogy to relate to my quit.  If you're sick of hearing me relate the two together, quit reading now, you've been warned.

I have a young lady that's been on my team for about 4 years now.  She's a freshman in High School now, and much like all the kids I see when they get to 7, 8, 9th grade, they tend to stray away from the gymnastics thing to pursue school sports and activities. We totally support them when they do.  I get it, that they want to hang out with their friends instead of working out three hours a night, three or four nights a week.  I'm cool with that.  This girl has a very hard time fitting in for a number of reasons.  Quite frankly, the safest, most secure, most stable place she has is my gym.  Our program is the one place where she hasn't been beaten up (figuratively and literally), or shunned, or dismissed or ignored.  She's got a rough life.

She is struggling in the gym right now.  Not performing.  Frankly, her attitude sucks and it shows.  She is finding every excuse to distract herself from the gym.  She's trying cheerleading (quit), swim team, skiing, whatever.

So I sat her down last night and instead of tearing her up, I asked her, "Instead of looking for other things to fill your time, why not devote your time here and really do well this year?"  It hit home.  She cried.  I make girls cry a lot...I dunno...

If you've continued to read this far, here it is:  KTC is the safest, most secure, most stable place I can find to quit.  Why would you try to find other things to distract yourself from here?  It's time tested and true.  Posting roll for 324 days has helped keep the shit out of my face.  Why would I mess with 100%?  My class, June 2010 has 30 (out of 40) confirmed quitters that hit the 3rd floor.  I think that is amazing.  The reason?  We all understand that we need to devote the time to stay here.  It's not a lot of time either.  It takes 3 or 4 real minutes to post roll.  30 seconds on a good day.

So the question to you is, "Instead of looking for excuses as to why you don't have to be accountable, or why you can't post roll, or why you can't answer a text from a concerned brother...why don't you devote yourself to YOUR QUIT and really do well this year?"
This.... is.... awesome.

Thank you sir.
well put NOLAQ
Yeah, I couldn't agree more.

Well said NOLAQ.
Kinda hard to argue with 100%.

On a similar note, why not find a few newbs in the brand new groups, and "shepherd a flock" so to speak? It can be public or private. If you think your accountability meter is full with brothers from your group, wait until you help a couple of guys hit double digits.

In September 2005, LOOT hit 100. LOOT decided he was comfortable enough to help. So, in April and May of '06, LOOT got involved. Involved hard. It became almost like an obsession. LOOT would like to think he had something to do with the success of that generation. If anyone cared to look it up, April and May '06 is where 4 of the 7 original Administrators came from. LOOT'd like to think he had something to do with assembling a team that is destroying UST one saved life at a time.

Hell, the current Admin/Mod team is comprised of a bunch a guys LOOT recruited when LOOT hit his comma. The point? Believe it or not, it's not so LOOT can pat LOOT on the back...the point is YOU can make a difference in the life of a human being that you will likely never meet. It doesn't take much time, just a genuine interest in helping.

When you get to a point in your quit where you feel good about it, Pay it Forward. Make a decision that you will leave the site in better shape than you found it. Your quit will be rewarded in immeasurable ways.

NOLAQ...you get it though don't you. The girls you coach in real life 'prolly make your eyes well up when you look back at what they have accomplished over the years huh? LOOT feels the same way about his internet friends.

If everyone adopts a few newbs and spends 100 days with them, watching, encouraging, teaching, this place can do much and impact many.

A thought for a Wednesday. Thanks NOLAQ. Thanks for reminding LOOT what is important.
Makes ole mule proud to be a deacon in the church of LooT.....and more importantly....

to count him and dozens of others amongst my friends.....IF LooT and many others hadn't taken the time to invest just a little encouragement/swift kick in the ass......not sure i'd be here.

posted 1128 this morning....and it still feels good and right.

good stuff indeed.
Yup, LOOT and a few others took an interest in me and my group over three years ago. I posted 1098 today.

Been dipping since the age of 12 or 13, really can't remember. I'm 31 years old now and therefore almost two decades of sticking shit in my mouth. I've managed to stop several times before, once for Marine boot, but after, mostly two weeks at a time. There seems like there always is a stressor that triggers a cave.
I'm deployed to Afghanistan right now, I figure it's a good time to make a good try before I go home to the wife and the boys. Right now I am on the gum, so I am not going to post roll quite yet. Away from the family I'm not exactly known as the nicest guy but as long as the people who are important to me are not here to witness me having nic fits, I'm good to go for a try at being quit.
My wife was a smoker. She has managed to quit while I am gone and now I need to hold up my end of the pact.
I am glad I found this website and almost look forward to this challenge.
Welcome Marine.

First, this is a no nic site. Period. Dump the gum. It's no good for you.

Second, we don't try here. We do.

Third, we're here for support. Check your Inbox (1) upper right corner.

Finally, Semper Fi, and let's get this shit done.
What is your major malfunction?!?!?!?!

I have been off the can for over 100 days now. Recently I stepped into a bathroom at school and the cleaner the janitor used smelled like wintergreen. Instantly I got my cravings back and almost caved. I had a dream that night about taking a big ol lipper. For the last couple days after this incident I have been craving really hard and Ive even felt iritable.

I was wondering if its normal to have such strong craves this late in the game? Amazingly before this happened I went for about a week without thinking about dip and I thought i was through. Im kinda bummed right now and need some feedback

I hope these cravings don't randomly come back like this.
aggy - I've got some good news and some bad news for you.

The bad news first... these kind of "pop up" craves will happen for a LONG damn time. Hundreds of days... years from now. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

The good news is that they get farther and father between and less and less intense. The further along you go in your quit, the more equipped you are to deal with stuff like this. I see you just joined today... stick around. There's literally thousands of people here to help you along your journey.

Found this site randomly. 31 years old, been chewing since i was about 18 pretty steady. Do a can a day. Finally at the point where ive had enough of it and i am ready to give it up. Just had baby #1 and I have to do it for her.
First day without a dip is today, anyone have any hints or tips to keep my mind off it feel free to let me know!
Post up an intro, go find the May '11 quit group, post roll call, read the site and get involved. Tons of good info here. Drink lots of water, get some seeds, gum and hard candies, then hold on to your ass.....its a wild ride. But a ride that I can promise will be well worth the effort.

Yes, you need to take the shit out of your lip and post roll. Then keep your word.
