I have been attending a nicotine dependence seminar sponsored by the Mayo Clinic many areas have been covered but the biological effects have been jaw dropping. I would highly recommend if you have a chance to attend one do it. Most of the evidence is based on smoking statistics but no less interesting.
I asked the physician speaker yesterday what information do you have about spit tobacco and his response was "the spit tobacco user is very secretive and very hard subject to follow"
. He did tell me this that a tin of Copenhagen(which is also the highest amount of nicotine and the highest amount of base in it. Base is an additive that UST uses that raises to PH to allow more free nicotine to taken up) is that it has the nicotine equivalent of 2 packs of smokes per tin. He commented that it is not uncommon for pro baseball players to go through 3 tins a day....6 packs of smokes...I don't know anyone that smokes 6 packs a day....and if they do they aint here long.
I also learned that the war on tobacco will make the biggest impact at getting users/addicts to stop. Although prevention is important it wont make as big as an impact as getting users to quit because there are so many of them.
stay tuned sports fans for an update after todays conference.
