went and got a can of hurbal snuff...but kinda feel funny about it...the true reason for quiting was tired of getting that funny look from people...when...throwing away a chew...you know...sticking my fingers in my mouth...and the shit between my teeth...but...really...i also got this attitude...fu@k em...kinda like swearing...there's always a place a time for everything...that is chewing herbal  snuff'''
This is a huge debate around here. To Fake or not to Fake.

We are evenly devided pretty much around here. I used Hooch Spitfire like it was my job for about the first 200 days. It got me through a LOT of tough spots. Some guys say it's too close to home.

I think every quitter makes his own decision about it, but as long as ypu're not putting nicotine in your system...have at it!
I've had similar experiences. I've tried Hooch, Jake's Mint Chew, and beef jerky. Personally I prefer the beef jerky, but I think I'm spending more on that than I did with the Copenhagen. Either way, having something between your cheek and gum has helped me with the oral fixation problems. As NOLAQ said, whatever it takes, as long as you're not putting any nicotine into your body. 'archer'
I say fake it. I did for 70 days or so and Mrs MikeA never noticed.

It is nicotine that we are quitting here. As long as there is no nic then have all you want.
Almost 900 and still occasionally hit it up. If it helps you keep nic outta your yap then do it.

Fake Dip: To Chew Or Not To Chew
http://blog.killthecan.org/2009/05/fake ... t-to-chew/
Throwing in the minority vote: My battle was as much against the can, the spittoon, and spitting all over the place as it was against nicotine. I was just tired of the whole activity, so it seemed pointless for me to start on the fake and then have to break that habit later. I chewed and dipped for over 19 years, have been quit 302 days, and have never even tried the fake stuff. It can be done. I chewed a lot of seeds in the process, but it can be done.

With that said, I'll still agree that hitting the fake is better than a cave anytime and I will support you 100% either path you take. Hope this helps.
Don't really see much of a difference between the fake dip and using seeds as a sub. Either way, you're trying to deal with the craves, and slowly weening yourself off the habit of having something in your lip
Do yourself a favor....stay far, far away from fake shit.

Do you really want to continue spending money on a crutch, have to worry about having enough, have to worry about where to get more, etc., etc., etc.?

It will take time to beat the act, but when you do, you will be done. Finished. Kaput.

For LOOT...and only LOOT...if it packs like dip, sits in your lip like dip, comes in a can like dip, smells like dip, costs money like dip, tastes like dip...before it's over with...it's gonna be dip.

You are tired of being a slave no? Then why only take the shackles off one ankle? You don't want the other foot free too? What about your hands? You wanna use those no?

Slay your demons. From bottom to top. Inside out. Leave them a foothold and chances are they'll have their claws in your flesh once again. Don't take that chance. It ain't worth it.

LOOT don't see how you can claim freedom from an addiction when you are still going thru the motions. True freedom is abstaining from the act and anything associated with it. You may no longer be addicted to chemicals but you are still addicted to the action. True, the action won't kill you, but in a sense...yous still a damned slave.

This is just one LOOT's opinion.
There are not many things that LooT and I disagree on, and this is one of them.

1. Fake dip is a crutch, like so many other things...Trident, sunflower seeds, man-yogurt, etc...
2. In three years of quitting and watching others quit, I have yet to hear of a single quitter who got hooked on the fake. Every one of us who used it early on just got tired of it eventually. I haven't had any fake in about a year and a half. My lack of use isn't because I decided to "quit", but rather that I just didn't feel like doing it anymore.

It was very helpful to me in my first few months and I heartily reccomend it. Fake on!

Started doing coffee grounds a few weeks into the quit. A lip can feel good otherwise we wouldn't have used it for years. Maybe some folks don't use fake and take up sucking off dudes, chewing gum, seeds or hard candy--too each their own. Don't let others decide what works for you
I have to agree with Loot on this one. Freedom from the can has made my quit strong. It is has been my number 1 driving force since about day 5 followed closely by the words of Kenzi Kern. For me having a dip hasn't felt good in 20 years, it was just there to feed my addiction and stave off the withdrawl.

To each their own but I would advocate the no fake course

I pack maybe 1-2 fake dips daily of Oregon Mint Snuff or Hooch mixed with Young's. I like it, it tastes good, it is what it is. What it isn't is tobacco.

Yep, same for me. Day 15. I went all last weekend without it, and didn't really notice, but sometimes when I get into work or just get home or whatever, and that trigger hits, I use it. Plan to phase it out eventually, but will just see how it goes.

What is your major malfunction?!?!?!?!
