Hoping things start clearing up. Once 6 months of hell is over it will be my goal to post everyday in roll call. As of now its going to be every Saturday and Sunday starting after Sept 8th

Great to hear. More advice...don't set goals and don't hope. There is too great of a chance of letting yourself down. Those things are wishy-washy addict-speak.

Compare it to this...I posted roll and gave my word to you and everyone here that I am quit today. That means I WOULD CUT MY FINGERS OFF OF BOTH HANDS BEFORE I WOULD USE THEM TO PUT TOBACCO IN MY MOUTH...today. That is just how goddam serious I am about..today. I'm not saying I quit forever. But I can guaran-damn-tee you that when my head hits the pillow tonight I will not have had any nicotine.

See the difference? By the way, this is the type of stuff you will miss by not posting roll and reading everyday. Don't feel bad...when I joined this site, I didn't think I needed to post roll. Because I could "quit anytime I wanted to" right? But I decided to humor the hard-core addicts for the first 100 days, then I would go my own way. Luckily, over the course of 100 days, some of the quit-pros got through to me. How? I have no idea. I am as stubborn as they come. But somehow I realized to be here. I needed to post roll. I needed the folks on this site. And that has made all the difference for me. It can for you too.

Tell ya what Deer.. We do live in a crazy, fucked up world surrounded by stupid rules. So DSP won't let you use the phone or internet M-F. I've heard of crazier shit than that. Hell, listen to some of Thumblewort's stories.

Congrats on making it to day 2, but ummm.. you still haven't posted roll. I get that you will have some limitations starting Sept 8th, but why not post now and for the next 5 days? Get those numbers, make those connections. That way Sat 13th you have people blowing up your phone if you aren't on roll. That's what we do...

You will find plenty of people on this site that have stopped for 6+ months and then used again. I'm one of them. I'm laying the ground work this time to make sure that doesn't happen again. Hoping you will as well.

Getting clean for the Police Academy is not the same as getting clean because you understand it will kill you and/or leave you with half a face.

Hey everyone been dipping for 3 years now. I just been accepted into the Delaware State Police academy starting September 8th. The great thing about the academy is that it is tobacco free for 6 months. I have weekends off. Today is my day 1. I feel like crap, hard to type or concentrate. It is going to be impossible to post everyday for roll call, but I will be able to post on weekends. Wish me luck

Why can't you post roll?

Yea^^^ why? You have failure written all over your intro. Starters, you are quitting for the wrong reason. You've got to quit for you and no one else. We don't quit with luck, it's only through pure determination. I've only heard a couple valid excuses to not be able to post role daily and I don't anticipate you will come up with one. Get serious, quit because YOU want to quit more than anything you've ever wanted and put everything you've got into your quit. If not you will fail, even if you make it 6 months you'll be back on the can as soon as your out of the academy. Prove me wrong.

Thanks for the reply! I don't have any access to a computer/phone/internet while I am at the police academy. I will post every Saturday and Sunday mornings. I am not allowed to leave the facilities. I will be posting roll call until I leave on Monday morning.

Trust me, you won't even have time to think about having a dip..you'll be too focused on passing the academy than wanting a dip...goodluck without posting

I know nothing about police academy but if you want to quit and stay quit make sure you put as much effort into your quit as you would have feeding your addiction. When you do have access to a computer make sure to spend time on here reading. Read other people's intros, read posts from your group.

Very interesting. Here are my concerns. One, you need to admit that you are an addict. Addicts will do anything for a fix. Addicts can go 6 months without nicotine....they are still addicts. Which leads me to my second concern.

If you go it alone, you may be successful. (I hope you will) But the danger will be 6 months down the road. You might think, I'm a cop now...I can handle it. And, you won't have developed relationships and camaraderie of brothers and sisters who you refuse to let down. You'll be fucking around with other cops getting a beer or whatever after work and someone will pull out a can. You will forget all about us and this little website way back in September, and you'll take a dip. You'll do it because you never joined our family. You used us to get through your Academy. And you will forget all about us.

Posting roll is about mutual accountability. It is about living free ONE DAY AT A TIME. It is about mutual respect earned by seeing others in the same boat fighting the same fight you're waging day in, day out...and winning. It is a BIG TOOL for an addict.

I am concerned that coming here and telling us all of the great shit you are GOING to do in the future, without going whole-hog the way others in your Quit Group and on this site have done is a formula for failure. I'm concerned that you're not committed to quitting, but that you are just trying to game the nicotine piss tests at the Academy. I hope you prove me wrong!

Monday through Friday I will be living in the academy. No electronic no nothing. Think of it like a military boot camp. That will force me to function under high volumes of stress without the use of dip.
