UplandBird,

My name is Romandog.. Like you I was a long time user (31 years).. The next several weeks will suck. Just embrace that fact, put your head down and bull right through it. Use seeds, gum, fake dip, etc.. Just no nicotine in any form. Stay close to the site. Get in chat.. Scream at us, not your loved ones.. We understand nic-brain and how it messes you up..

Read my HOF speech, it may have something in it that can help:

index.php?showtopic=5054hl=

Quit for today..

Get up tomorrow and repeat..

If I can do this, you can..

I've stopped and then started again many times. I want to quit and stay quit this time. I have always done well getting past the early withdrawals but the triggers (hunting, fishing, camping) have always been my downfall before. Let me ask if using products like BaccOff is cheating or does that still count as quiting? No tobacco and no nicotine.

Glad to join you and look forward to your help.

Phil
Man you are not cheating using any fake chew like that. I didn't do it but that was because I tried that tact one time before and it led me back to the real thing. A lot of folks here swear by it though so anything to keep the nic out of your mouth is a good thing. As you will learn we don't use luck to quit here. We just stay quit by posting roll and promising not to use nicotine one day at a time. And of course by relying on each other. You will meet a lot of good guys and possibly a gal or two on this site as well. Flush it all, and quit on man. You deserve it! And by the way eventually you will see that doing all of those things you love to do will not require nicotine to enjoy them!!!

I see you posted roll today, great job bro! I'm quit with you today!

The first 3-4 days are rough, man. They do get better the more time that goes on, but you just have to go thru it, there aren't any shortcuts unfortunately.

We all quit 1 day at a time (ODAAT) here. In the early days, you might even want to quit 1 hour at a time, or 1 minute at a time. But we don't worry about forever, its much too hard to quit forever. Just quit today, and thats all. COMMIT to staying quit all day today, and you will. Then repeat that tomorrow.

One more thing I thought of - check out the "LIVE CHAT" sometime, there's always quitters in there chatting and ready to support anybody in a rough spot. Great place to meet some fellow quitters.
Basically, just figure out and use all the available resources here on KTC.

Hey Phil - welcome to KTC!!! and congrats on your decision to finally quit. To answer your question, yes the fake chew is absolutely acceptable to use. The only thing we dont' allow is NRT such as nicorette gum, patch, lozenge etc. Those have nicotine in them, so its like quitting beer by drinking schnapps. Doesn't make sense.

In addition to fake/herbal chew, I found that hard candies like Jolly ranchers really helped, because you cant just chew them up and swallow them, they last for a while. Same with gum and sunflower seeds, all good things to have on hand.

You'll want to drink alot of water especially in the first few days, that will help flush the poison out of your system. Exercise is a great help for the rage and anxiety you will no doubt be experiencing in the first few weeks.

You need to learn to post roll here at KTC, so click on the pink-ish "WELCOME CENTER" link near the top left of this page. That should help you get started. Also click around the site and read everything you can, there's tons of great info here, lots of motivational stuff, and it also provides a good distraction.
If you need any help at all or have any other questions, let me know.

Rick

Welcome to KTC UplandBird. First and foremost, you will need to post Roll. Roll is your daily promise to yourself and all of your new brothers and sisters that you will not use tobacco in any form that day. You will post your name and the number of days you are quit each day in the March 2014 quit group. Each and every day you will post your promise. No exceptions. That is the price of admission to KTC. Nothing more and nothing less. The reason you are put in March is that will be the month that you will celebrate being 100 days free of nicotineÂ…your Hall of Fame date. Remember, this is a nicotine free site and any fake dip is OK as long as it does not contain nicotine. So, chew your nic free BaccOff if it helps you through the pangs of the fog.
Now that you know the basics, it is time to read all you can on this site. Go to the welcome center (Salmon colored tab) and that will get you started. Post roll and look up at your inbox (1). That is a personal message from me with my telephone number. Congrats on the best decision you will make. Wayne

One of the vets should be along shortly to get you started on this amazing road but I wanted to say Hi and Welcome to the March Quitters. The only thing I know for sure so far is that you have to be accountable to your quit that means posting roll every day and promising not to use nicotine just for that day. Read a lot all over this site is filled with Bad Ass Mothers that know how to succeed at this. I'm new so I don't have any great words of wisdom except post roll, read, sack up, and stay quit no matter what!
