Greetings all,
First, thank you for this site and for the encouragement. I am planning my quit today after my wife underwent a biopsy and a potential cancer scare looming over us. I am writing this on my iPhone as one of my 6 children (my 4 year old daughter) is laying on her daddy's chest. I am planning to quit on the 1st of the month (sanity reasons) and I know it is a day by day thing. I smoked cigarettes for decades and took up dip to quit smoking. The good news is I successfully quit smoking only to realize cigarettes are cotton candy compared to dip!
Here's the deal. I am not one of those huggy feely types that likes group hugs and therapy sessions. I am not knocking those who are (different strokes). Support groups like these require discipline and effort and I am simply not there yet. Still there is something about encouragement with a hint of accountability that is appealing to me.
Perhaps this group is all or nothing, and you can't have your cake and eat it too. I am cool with that. But if anyone is interested and would like to send me an email from time to time, I would greatly appreciate it.
Now this may sound strange, but I am a total metal head...if you picked this up by the title of my post, I am a big Megadeth fan! I am also a hard core Bible teacher that desires to be a pastor some day. Oxymoron... Perhaps. But I can't picture myself being a metal head pastor that dips...gotta draw the line somewhere...right? All of that to say this, listen..I truly covet your prayers above all things on this leg of my journey. So if there are any metal heads, Christians, pastors, or every day dippers or ex-dippers, feel fee to email me from time to time as well.
Before I go, I want you all to know that each email I get I am committed to praying for that person. If I don't respond, it's not that I did not read your mail, I am just a really busy guy, running a family, an advertising agency, involved heavily in ministry, soccer, scouts and whatever my teenagers are into. I know you are busy too and so I will return your gestures of encouragement by pausing and praying for you throughout the days, weeks, months, years...as I receive your emails.
Thank you and the LORD bless you all.
