Ok, Ok
30 minutes after I first posted this, I took my two tins to the bathroom and flushed them. That was 3 hours and 10 minutes ago. I now feel like someone caked a wad of vaseline over my eyeballs, and I'm twitchin and bitchin, but I've begun the detox process.
I posted to the Sept 2011 quit group and I'm gonna give this a shot.
Thanks for the no bullshit, kick in the ass
nice work, brother. welcome to the suck. embrace it, allow the misery to wash over you in waves, and rejoice in the fact that you'll never have to do the first day again.

take things one day at a time. follow these steps:

1. wake up
2. post roll (your promise to remain nic free for the next 24 hours)
3. keep your word to yourself and your quit brothers
4. repeat

you'll have cravings and triggers and moments of weakness. have a plan to deal with that shit. seeds, gum, fake chew, phone numbers to call/text, exercise, etc. find what works for you.

you're tougher than this addiction, but the nic bitch ain't no pussy either. fight for your freedom. protect your quit by not putting yourself in dangerous situations (i.e. drinking with the boys or something).

let me know how i can help you.

Just to clarify - you are implying that you plan to wean yourself off of chew, just like you did smoking? Why would you do that? It may have appeared to work for you the first time, but obviously you hadn't closed the door on nicotine altogether. You took a four year break, but nicotine was still an option for you four years later. There have been quitters on this site who have gone through hell and back and never returned to nicotine as a crutch. They have closed the door and know that caving is never an option. It won't make any shitty situation better. It just adds pain to your life.

I feel like weaning yourself down is admitting defeat before you even get started. You're telling yourself and this community that you are not strong enough to take complete control of your addiction. You need to compromise with your addiction. Let it down gently. No, no, no. Nicotine is not your friend. You do not need it to lead a normal, happy life. Every day that you ingest nicotine you are losing the psychological war. Not to mention that your next chew just might be the one that gives you cancer. Yeah, that line sounds like rhetorical bullshit, but it's true.

Be a fucking man. Don't give your subconscious an opportunity to convince you that you need nicotine. That you were successful with quitting smoking. You weren't. You failed. Why was nicotine still an option? Will overcoming the pain of cold turkey make your eventual quit stick?

Who knows - you're still an excuse making chewer. Don't fucking post here again until you've quit. You're not welcome here as is.

Do you want to continue to be a slave to nicotine???? Do you want to continue to worry about your health? Do you want to conitnue to pay US Tobacco for giving you cancer? If the answers to these questions are yes then by all means feel free to keep doing what you are doing. But if you want to pull on your big boy pants tell the nic bitch to fuck off and start gaining the freedom that being quit gives you flush that shit now...Go post roll in September and start your day 1 right NOW! No better time than now to be quit. You are putting off the inevitable....Whether you wean yourself off nicotine or fucking do it right now you are going to go through a rough patch for a few days... Why keep putting that shit in your mouth. maybe just maybe the next one is the one that gives you fucking cancer...bye bye Jaw.... Dont do tomorrow what you know you want to do right now.....I got your back...PM me if you have a question or 2 or 1,000

Former smoker started chewing (stupid!
« on: June 14, 2011, 01:00:00 PM »
Hey all,

I'm a 38 year old dipshit.
I quit smoking 6 years ago, and had a hell of a time with it. But I was successful, I haven't had a puff for all of those six years, and didn't have any nicotine at all for the first four years, and then...
I got a new job in a new town with a co-worker who had a tin of Cope on his desk all the time.
I started opening it up and smelling it, it smelled so wonderful. 'winker'
I had gained about 25 pounds after quitting smoking, and was chowing down on the sunflower seeds on the long drives back home. My new coworker recommended taking a couple of pouches of dip with me on the drives, so I wouldn't eat so many seeds. (full disclosure: I HAD mooched a couple of pouches from him prior to this).
Within a couple of weeks, I was regularly chewing.
I can't believe how quickly I was dipping first thing in the morning, immediately after meals, and pretty much having that turd in my lip all the time.
I then read somewhere that chew isn't nealy as bad for your health as smoking, and for some reason (addiction) this resonated with me, and I said to myself, "screw it, I'm just going to be a chewer."
Basically, I switched one nicotine delivery system for another, with a four year break in between.
I feel like a moron.
I read on this site that a lot of people recommend just taking my chew and throwing it in the toilet right now, immediately.
When I quit smoking, I gradually weaned myself off the smokes, and it worked (at least so far  )
Just wanted to share my nicotine travails, and ask for comment
