Thanks for the support. I woke up today at 8 p.m. (i work nights) and had a pretty bad headache. Walked to the car to leave for work and instinctively opened my console to grab my can, and found the pack of stride gum  that i left in its place. I was grateful to myself that I had planned ahead to leave alternitives in places where i keep my cans. When i have had a craving i come to this website and reread the support everyone has posted. I found that I am most vulnerable when i am alone.

Ps. If i could get some contact info from some people so i can text my promises in i would appreciate it. My number is xxx-xxx-xxxx (edited by wp) I will be gone may 2-5 away from any computers.
Great job on posting. I'm on day 76 and i still get the morning crave. Its a lot easier to beat down. Glad to be quit with you. Get through today and we'll worry about tomorrow when it gets here.

Morning craves suck but y'Know what?... you push through the morning. Then... you push through the afternoon. Then... you push through the evening. Then... you get some sleep (hopefully) :) Day is done! Then... you get up, post roll, and do it again. One day at a time. Know what else?... We'll all do it with you again and again. Rock it bro...
All craves are going to suck, and it was really smart to have the gum on hand.....it got me through some tough craves. I'd also recommend that you keep a CD of instrumental meditation music for car rides as it works almost as good as gum. Good for fighting off rages. Keep it up, we're here for you. PM if you want my cell number.
I thought he'd make it.

The poison sucks. I hate it. I hated it this morning, I hated it at noon, I hated it at supper and I hate it tonight. I enjoy hating it so much I'm going to wake up tomorrow and start over hating it. I quit with anyone that wants to hate it with me.

First and foremost, thank you for your service!

Be strong and quit -- don't be a pussy and cave, simple as that. I dipped for over 33 years. Started in Junior High, all through school, Olympic Boxing trials, halfway through Bible College, where I quit for a few years and started again because I was too much of a pussy to direct my own life. I'm 77 days clean today and I feel like I went 12 rounds with Satan himself the last couple of months.

The last few weeks have started to become easier finally. Quit now and get this shit over with so you don't look back after 30 years and realize what a complete pussy you were over that time. Your already a bad ass by serving our country -- prove just how bad ass you can be by sticking with your quit. If you feel like your going to freak out -- go on live chat and bitch away, they will talk you down. I sent you a PM with my number as well if you need anything "holla."

Welcome bewilli. I thank you for your service as well. You asked for some advice when you are around people that are dipping. It will be hard to do at first, but you have to change the way you think. Right now your addicted mind will see them and try like hell to get you to join. They will be more than willing to give you a pinch.

You have to start thinking of nicotine differently,, it is something that is killing you. It is something that is taking your money, precious life and freedom. It does not help you in any way, or give you anything, but bad breath and gum loss. It takes your freedom and independence as well as your integrity.

If you can start looking at other people that dip, as slaves, that do not have control It will help. After time I began to feel sorry for people that are controlled by nicotine as I was for over 25 years. Now I try to help the people I'm around by telling them the truth about nicotine. It is a very powerful tool when you have been there done that. You to can help other people,, not right now, but soon. I bet a lot of your friends, service brothers think it can't be done,, but it can and it is SO WORTH IT. You are going to be the proof.

I'm glad to be quit with you today. P.M me if you need some digits.

I can see where you are coming from, and I do want to quit but i feel like if I use want I am less likely to put forth my best effort at quitting. It is just one of those things that work for me. By the way I am going to miss roll call from thursday through sunday due to military training.
Being in the military does make it a bit harder but not impossible, the number of folks who dipped when I was in was huge, almost all of the guys I worked with and/or worked for me did.

I quit in 97 and started dipping again 10 months later, I blamed the other guys for me restarting, when it was really me who was weak and failed, what I should have done when I got that crave was walk away, instead I bummed a dip.

Stay busy, stay away from the triggers to dip if you can, get some of the mint/herbal snuff, and get some sunflower seeds.

In 97 I really didnÂ’t tell anyone I had quit, some noticed some didnÂ’t, today I tell everyone, I tell them how many days itÂ’s been since I quit, I post roll and tell everyone here the days, now my integrity is on the line, and to lose my integrity is way more important to me than a pinch of cope.

Can you text in your promise to someone on those days? There's a few thousand guys that will post for you on any given day if you ask and make your pledge to them.

Also, do whatever you have to do to not put that shit in your face today. I ate constantly, whether it was seeds or candy at my desk or in the car, I just kept my mouth busy. You'll likely put on a few pounds. I put on 30# in the first 30 days. Deal with the weight later, in a few months, when the constant cravings have calmed.

Speaking of the car, I have not been inside a gas station in the past 203 days. I pay at the pump and avoid that temptation. Every gas monger in my town would have a can on the counter as soon as I pulled in. Screw them.

Like these guys have said. Quitting is not easy. You have to want it and have to work at it everyday. It takes 24 hours a day to remain quit, but only a second to piss it all away. Don't be a douche. Welcome aboard. You got this.

TODAY is when I need to stop.

I don't mean to nit pick but I'd change two words, need and stop. I knew that I needed to quit but I never really wanted to quit till I made that final decision. Rather than need I like want. Rather than stop, quit. I associate stopping with driving, we stop or pause at a stop sign.

Thank you all for the words of encouragement. My job requires me to stay on a computer most of the night, and it is all too easy to throw in a pinch while working. I work at night with one other person and they are a non tobacco user, so if i stay outside of the gas stations for a few days i think i will do fine.

Congrats on a great choice, Bewillie!!! Embrace the suck...welcome the suck. The suck is a PRIVILEGE reserved to those who have the guts to tell the Nic Bitch to fuck off.

Nobody can do this for you. There are no short-cuts. You earn your freedom one day at a time. But you took the first step, so we've got you back now. Click around in the Quit Groups...not just your own group, but all of them. All of those bad-asses were once where you are right now...and they are still fighting everyday to stay quit. I don't know how you're going to quit forever. I don't know how I am going to quit forever. But none of that shit matters. The only thing that I am 100% fucking sure of is that I'm not using nicotine today. And THAT IS ALL THAT MATTERS.

Excercise, fake stuff, mints, water...whatever it takes. Get numbers, PM your Quit Group and read all you can on this site. YOU CAN DO THIS, BROTHER!!!

Hello, I found this website and after going through some of the topics I decided to register for an account and quit today. This site inspired me to finally set up and quit today rather than putting it off for tomorrow. All of my military friends use tobacco and I feel like it will be hard to adjust to that. Any tips would help with that situation or if you could direct me I would appreciate it. I've dipped since I joined the Army in 07 and TODAY is when I need to stop.
Good for you man, and welcome to the "suck".

The next few days are going to be like boot camp in that they will kick your ass and leave you crying in your bed at night. However, let me tell you, it gets better. Quickly.

You see, you have to go through the physical withdrawals because (while your mind says you are quit) your body thinks it still needs the poison. It says this because there are small doses of the drug inside your body still. Drinking lots of water (figure on peeing. Constantly), exercising (push-ups, runs, etc), and limiting your caffeine intake (especially in these first few days. I guarantee you'll be jittery enough.) will help that process.

After that, it's simply up to you. Your body will begin healing, but it's first inclination is to ask nicotine. You need to override that initially. Once you do this, your body will stop asking for it "to get through this".

Regarding your buddies, ask yourself "How bad do I want to quit? What am I willing to do?". Is being quit more important than a couple nights out? More important than some beers? More important anything else in your life right now?

Because it needs to be for you to be quit.

We'll stand beside you and help you every step of the way, but you got to be 100% in this. The KTC can be the biggest, baddest weapon you carry into this battle, but it's up to you to pull the trigger. Get some numbers. Make some friends. Have some laughs. Share some cries. It's all there in quitting. It's just up to do it.

You can do this man.
Welcome bewilli86,

Flush it all, get in here and read, chat, post roll, make friends, exchange digits, "be quit" one day at a time! You can do anything for one day, right?
It's the best decision you'll ever make. It's a decision we make here every a.m. when we post roll!
Cheers. 'zombie'
Keeping my jaw and tongue...I like them.

Wastepanel pretty much said it. You made the decision, now you gotta stay committed.

Military, law enforcement, and fire departments all seem to have an above-average percentage of addicts. Don't let that sway you. There are lots of us on this site that are in one of those groups. We are quit. We are setting an example. We are proving every day that we are tougher and more committed than those peers that are still enslaved.

It can be done, bro. One day at a time.
