unfortunately this does happen from time to time...  not sure what to do about it other than what you suggest (IE ask your IT guys to unblock it... explain what the site's all about)

Just did - IT was cool about it, said they would unblock it ASAP. That was easy!

AWESOME! Guess maybe some of those IT folks do have a life and understand things other than their own little world! Glad you took the time to ask!

Welcome Bighoss!

Yeah, hear what your sayin' about the roll call thing..... I stop by the site a couple times a day to see whats going on, but the roll call is not exactly the most user friendly. I truthfully haven't used it yet but sure seems that there could be a easier way than cuttin and pastin' all the crap..... And to tell the truth, I work remotely here in Alaska for 2 weeks at a time. When I'm home I NEVER get on a computer so the everyday roll call is not going to work.  On day 6 and so far it's still going great. Usin' the fake dip and seems to work well for the needin' something in the lip part...... Going home in a week, we've had some cold weather here for the last 10 days. can't wait to get out and chase some critters!  hang in there!
Hey AKjon,

I think I've gotten the hang of roll call. At the very least, I'm starting to understand the importance of it. I actually pulled up to work today thinking the first thing I would do is post roll, and I was excited for it...I know that I won't be able to post everyday, especially weekends, but I hope my class knows I'm committed!

On another note, my company blocked Killthecan.org from my browser because of "alcohol/tobacco." I can't access live chat or anything from the homepage. I already saved the community forums to my favorites list so that comes up for some reason? I think I will ask IT to unblock as it is a QUITTING resource - anyone else have this problem?

I quit my 14 year habit Same day/Same time.  Pretty sweet. I spent my chewing career hiding the fact I had a dip in, got pretty good at it too.  I chewed in high-school, chewed during AF technical training, chewed through my entire AF career (6 yrs), chewed in all the "smoke free" facilities at the jobs afterwards.  Never spit, spittin' was for pussies (nice high school train of thought).  Now I have a job with a lot of responsibility, I really like it, like the company, like the benefits, and they have to come out with a new tobacco free policy.  Not that it's really a change, but it is on paper and it was in my face, so I took the new year plunge.

Day 5 wasn't so bad, a few stressful moments but none too provoking.  The only saving grace I have is there aren't any in my office that chew.  I have tried quitting before and it was always the co-workers who got me my next fix.  Stick in there, do some pushups or something to get through the desk sit.
Roy - Congrats on your quit and I'm glad to know of somebody going through the same struggles at the same time!

Yesterday was a hard day but I never broke down, even sat through a territory review next to a co-worker spitting Cope into his empty coffee mug. I did, however, go to the local liquor store listed on mintsnuff.com and picked up a can of the fake stuff. Packs weird, kinda sticky but it tastes great, tingles and burns and even gives you a reason to spit. Funny thing though is the GREEN, not brown...

The fake stuff should help a great deal with the mental aspect. Physically, today is a better day. Did not wake up with a headache thir morning as I have days 2-5 and I even slept better last night. So, overall, today is feeling like a good day so far...

Thanks to everyone that has reached out and offered their phone numbers and support!
When I had tried to quit before I never had much luck with the mint, I just wanted to eat the shit. I was better with the Smokey Mountain Snuff, it was almost gross enough to be tobacco, and had a better consistency. I haven't tried the hooch or whatever they suggest here, but there are plenty of options. I'm actually drinking hot tang, gives a little energy boost, and it isn't coffee so it won't keep me up all night, plus I always had a chew with my coffee, chew sucks.

5 Days In
« on: January 05, 2009, 03:10:00 PM »
Hello all - I'm really glad to have found this site. I quit almost five days ago, had my last chew around 11:45pm 12/31, but am having a harder time now that I am back at work.

I have chewed for almost 10 years, started with Skoal in '99, then switched to Cope while playing college baseball. Was a lifestyle then, can't remember ever taking the field WITHOUT a chew - and I was spending around 5 hours a day there. After college I switched back to Skoal, mostly mint but some straight and the occasional fruity apple or citrus. Up until 12/31, was a can every 1-2 days.

Now I am 26, recently engaged. Great job in software sales - which means I spend a lot of time at my desk, on the phone. Young boss who doesn't care, co-workers that chew. Perfect dipping atmosphere. Hence the reason I'm having more trouble today than the last four days - feels odd to be at my desk and not have tobacco in my lip.

I am committed to quitting, will do roll call (if I can figure the freakin thing out). Am looking forward to getting to know you all better and help/be helped stay nic free.
