Day 111

Stopped at the gas station that I always used to buy my chewing tobacco at.  Bought a fountain drink.  When the clerk asked if there was anything else, I instinctively said, " a roll of husky wintergreen."  And then it hit me.....what the fuck was I saying?  I don't chew that shit anymore.  Just found it humorous that it was such an instant reaction.  Obviously I left the store with no tobacco and still quit.

Moral of the story:

Fuck you Nic Bitch!
Wow, now there is an old habit.....or that would not be called a freudian slip would it....now lets picture Arfy in a slip.... 'Crazy'

Enough said, that would keep me quit too.

Nice victory
Thanks D. I appreciate your comment. Did you know that you were the first person I ever talked to on this site? I remember it and will never forget it. Very proud to be quit with you brother!

DAY 70- Good news. I get $600 a year back from my Heath Insurance Program because I don't put that crap in my mouth anymore! Saweet!
Sweet indeed. You health insurance knows they just saved way more than $600/yr in treating the health effects you are now avoiding. These guys are as good as
Vegas odds makers setting the betting/pay line... Nice Arfy!

DAY 67-Had an unusual experience the other day. I was looking at some paperwork with a guy I work with that chews. As I am standing next to him I catch a big wiff of his Skoal Mint. It was the most disgusting and most appealing thing I had ever smelled. The smell just made me want to hurdle. I thought to myself, did I really used to put that crap in my mouth? And as appealing as it smellled, I thought to myself, that is just the addict in me. Fuck off Mr. Skoal. Not today! Your jedi mind tricks won't work on me!

Things I don't miss about dipping

1)Little bits of chewing tobacco in every crevasse of the car
2)Little bits of chewing tobacco under the couch
3)Little bits of chewing tobacco everywhere I can think of
4)Stained rug spots from where I had accidently knocked over my spit bottle
5)Always a disgusting looking smelly bottle within arms reach of myself.
6)The look on someones face when they see that smelly bottle
7)Spit stain on the side of the car door
8)Trying to talk when I needed to spit
9)Holding a mouth full of spit, because I had no place to spit
10)Sore gums
11)Having to stop everything and run to the store, because I was out of tobacco
12)Forking over $35/week to Big Tobacco
13)Coughing(more like gagging) because I had swallowed some of that tobacco by mistake
14)worrying everyday that I might have mouth cancer
15)Staying up late so I could get that one extra dip in the day.
16)The most important for last, becoming a slave to the nic bitch.

Tobacco has NEVER done ANYTHING to make my life better.  The only thing Tobacco does is take take take.  Never forget!
Awesome Arfy! 235+ days quit and I am still finding tobacco bits in odd places. Shook out my keyboard and found almost 1/2 a can!
There are tons of stupid addict behaviors that we all can laugh about now (like the weinie tuck when spitting into a urinal...), but pretty pathetic that we all chose to live that way for years.
Always proud to be quit with you Arfy! Great Job! :D
Hey - great list but there is something if I may that is huge for me that would fit into a list like this:

And that is that I do not miss:

1) Saying wait a minute as I run to the bathroom to get rid of the crap from my lip, so that I can come back and kiss my wife and kids.

Sorry I saw your list and this hit me hard.

I forgot this happened last week.

Last week I went and spent a couple of days with my parents.  They have both been smokers for I don't know 30 or 40 years.  So we're sitting around playing poker and they announce it's time for a cigarette.  I didn't even think about it.  It has always been a habit that when they go outside to smoke, I go outside and sit with them because the smoke never bothered me and we just BS.  So I go out there(not even thinking about it).  I last about 30 seconds before I start to catch a whiff of their cigarette.    I had to tell them that I can't be around them anymore when they smoke because I could feel the effects of the smoke in only a short amount of time.  Anyone else had an experience similar to this?  Just curious how much nic if any can be found in second hand smoke.
Hey Arfy - I don't know if I can directly answer your question but I'll share my experience. I'd "quit" for family vacations because nobody knew I dipped anyway. Every trip we took, I'd "committ" myself to quitting. One trip in particular was to Disneyland. We'd be walking through the crowds and I would go out of my way to walk behind a smoker or through a smokers smoke and inhale as deeply as possible. I wanted every little bit of nic I could get because I had "quit". I don't think I ever lasted more than four days (which by that time the physical stuff is done!) but every time I would get a little something from secondhand smoke. It was pathetic. Looking back on it I know those seco d hand smoke experiences contributed significantly to cravings - but in the end I was not committed to quitting and I CHOSE to use nicotine again. I guess all that to say job well done. If you are uncomfortable with something, remove yourself from the situation. Immediately. Anything less is flirting with a planned cave. This is life and death, it's no joke. Someday you'll prob be fine around your parents smoking but for now you have to protect yourself. Again, well done. Proud to call you a quit brother today!

Denny

PS. After 475 days of being quit, I avoid second hand smoke like the plague. I understand my addiction well now and I know it wouldn't "make" me cave. It's the principle of it. My body is nicotine free, that counts second hand nic. FREEDOM!!
Your dead on, I had to avoid my buddies smoking cigars because it would kick off craves for a week.
Just wasn't worth it
"CLOSE THE DOOR. In my opinion, it?s the single most important step in your final quit. There is one moment, THE moment, when you finally let go and surrender to the quit. After that moment, no temptation will be great enough, no lie persuasive enough to make you commit suicide by using tobacco."

Today(Day 19), I found two partial cans of Husky Wintergreen in my center console of my car. It felt great to flush it without even considering anything else! Happy to be quit!
