Welcome to the sight guys...Great Decision!

I chewed for about 20 yrs, and I'm about 20 days into a solid quit. It's been tough but keeps getting better.

If you ask, you'll get lots of advice here. Sometimes just posting helps reinforce my quit for the day, so I'll start today by giving some you didn't even ask for it.

When I started this quit I figured I'd use the nicotine gum. I chewed the gum like a madman for the first couple days, then found this site around day 3. Based on the advice of many here (Loot are you reading?) I figured I should get off the gum too...ASAP. I came up with a plan to wean off that too. Something like 9 pcs, 6 pcs, 5, 4, 4, 3, 2, 2, 1, 1. It was easier than trying to wean off the dip because it was only the drug not the dip, and about two weeks in I was off the nicotine too. Best thing I ever did!

Just be careful with the replacements. It's supposed to be fine if you stick with the program, but probably better if you can just quit that too! At some point you've got to get off the replacements too. And like Loot told me "why do that to yourself?" get it over with.

Good luck guys, post if you need to. It helps!

Joe

I know I posted on here yesterday for the first time, but I thought I would introduce myself too. If you refer to NWCatfan, I am the brother who he has a bet with. My name is Kirk and I have been chewing since I was 18 and I am now 41. To many years of High School, College and some Professional Baseball, where it was alright to chew. I too would love to see my nephew grow up, and since he does pick up on things now, I would hate to see him pick up a bad habit that his Uncle has. The bad part was that I quit back in 2002 (January 1) for almost the entire year. Then I did a stupid thing and said that I could handle just one dip. Before I was done with "Just that One Dip", I was at the convenience store buying a can. FUCK. Anyway. I am back at it for good this time. Both my wife and Sister-in-law have so-far been very supportive of our quitting (Thats probably until the grumpies start) Anyway just glad that my sister-in-law found this site and sent it to me.

Just wanted to introduce myself...
My name is Jon. I've been chewing since I was 15 years old and I'm 43. My brother and I have a $500 bet as to who can quit and never go back to the dark side of chewing. The first one to put a chew in his mouth owes the other. If we both end up quitting, it's a wash. This bet stays in effect until one or both dies. Not to mention that I also have a steak dinner bet with my physician.

This site was emailed to me by my wife. Bless her soul. We have a beautiful 2 1/2 year old son at home and a 5 year old golden retriever. It was time to quit because our boy is learning so fast and copying what his mother and I do. I don't ever want him to know how bad chewing is. My wife also lost her father at the age of 61. I have no doubt that years of smoking contributed to his early death. So many things have changed in my life and to think that I was putting something in my mouth that could change all that. It was definitely time to quit. In fact, I should've quit years ago and even better, never started in the first place.

Today is day 1 and I'm 22 hours into it. The Nicoderm patch and a relentless supply of gum really helped. On to day 2...
Jon,
Congrats on making the best decision of your life. Quitting will prove to be one of the very best things you have ever done.
Go on over to the April quit group and post up roll. When you put your name on that list you are telling everyone that you are commited to quitting. The first days will undoubtedly be the toughest. You need to hang on through that time, and make the commitment and decision to not use the stuff.

When I first got here, all I did was read, post, read, and post some more. Use this site as much as you can, as it will help you throughout your quit.

Again, congrats on deciding to quit. Your wife has found you a great place to be.

I won't fall again. I guarantee it
