Hey guys,

I am looking to quit starting September 1st 2012. I have been dipping 7-8 years about a half tin to full tin of Skoal a day. I am actually a doctor and am sorry to say that I look forward to lunch break just to stick a dip in my mouth, and it is the last thing I do before going to bed at night. I have dipped roughly a half tin to full tin a day since I was in undergrad. I blow roughly $1000.00 a year on this crap. I am not necessarily quitting for the money, I don't really care about that, but more to save the only pair of gums I have. I have quit several times before . . . several times for over a month, once for 60+ days, but have always had something that set me back to it.

I am looking for a quit group that is starting soon, hopefully one of you guys can give me a link to one that is starting soon . . . I have got to quit this nasty habit, I already ordered some nicotine free mint chew to help get that lip craving settled. Looking to go through that nasty hazy phase again starting Saturday.

Let me know if any of you can direct me to one of these groups.

Thanks,

Boise

Will do Scowick. Thanks.

Well I tried to go out with my friends tonight. A karaoke contest at our usual haunt. They are all excellent singers and a few should get paid for it but that's irrelevant. The point is that those venues are a major part of my friend's social life. Not being a singer, I'm a little apathetic to the location but everybody usually has a great time.

It's obvious after tonight that those places are now in my past. Guess I never noticed how bad that bar was. Not just second hand smoke, a veritable wall of smokey haze. I went into the main part of the club away from the stage area which is much less crowded and few smokers. Didn't matter. I could tell it wasn't going to work and had to leave before I finished my first beer. I don't think I stayed long enough to jeopardize my quit. Don't feel any nicotine 'symptoms.' But it was an obvious slap in the face. Had I stayed a half hour, I might as well have slapped in a big chaw and fired up a stogie. It really was that bad. Everybody in that club was a de facto smoker whether they ever fired one up or not.

So not only has nicotine degraded my health and finances thru the years, it now places me at odds with my friends. 'bang head' They understand why I had to leave and were supportive if even a little disappointed. What I don't think they understand is that this is not a temporary problem. This is not just an obstacle for a few months while I quit dip. This is a major permanent life decision. I will never be able to go back to that place and remain quit. And since I will never go back to my slavery... I guess this is now the first cost of my freedom.

Not only have I lost my hangout with my friends, now I gotta find a new place to pick up pussy. WTH. As if nicotine withdraw wasn't bad enough on it's own.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I'll post roll. Unfortunately I'll be away for military training the first 2 weeks of September. Not likely I'll have access.

I'm not terribly worried about the training. There will be lots of situational triggers I'll have to deal with. But there is a pretty high peer pressure advantage in my favor. I've been very vocal about quitting and have talked alot of smack. Don't think my pride would let me cave around that crowd. And I'll be very busy which doesn't hurt.

As far as the second hand smoke, that's what I was worried about. I guess I'll have to make serious adjustments to my social circle as well. They all smoke and none have any desire to quit or cut back. Time to cull the herd. That may be a bigger challenge then the craves.

Thanks.
Get some numbers from the badasses here before you go and things will go well also get some of the fake stuff or seeds and maybe even just some gum the triggers will be there but so will your determination and resolve!

Get the numbers to make sure to post, send one of your quit brothers your promise everyday and DON'T BREAK YOUR PROMISE!!!!

Hit me up if you need any help brother, one day at a time!

I went to visit my sister and she is a chain smoker. She didn't smoke while I was there but the nicotine that covered her apartment made my gums itch like crazy for the rest of the night after I left. I try to avoid smokers and chewers as much as possible now because its not part of my life.
Enough is enough. Time to take control back from the nic bitch. My HOF speechGR8WHITEBUFFALO

Hey Guys. I quit on 19 August but it was before I found this site. Just decided I was done and went cold turkey. Yeah it sucked for about 4 days. But now I feel great. I sleep a full nights sleep now - my body isn't waking me up to feed the bitch. I have more energy. My flag flies at full staff with increased spontaneous regularity. (That is a huge pyshological advantage as I didn't expect such an abrupt change) Definitely the best decision I've made in a long time.

I found this site while looking for information on second hand smoke and it seems like a worthwhile site. My question is that now that the nic is out of my system, how dangerous is it to be around smokers? I was never a smoker before but I know my body doesn't give a shit. Nicotine is nicotine. And after 25yrs of use, I'm sure my body is very efficient at taking up the poison.

I'm not planning on immersing myself in second hand smoke but how much residual nicotine is in it? I realize that a smoke filled bar is off limits as well as being in a car with a smoker. But what about low level second-hand smoke? Will my body soak it up like a sponge? Every friend I have is an active smoker. My social circle has not been overly supportive. They have offered half hearted congratulations but I think my quitting makes them feel bad. It makes me sad that they won't follow me yet.

My first 4 days of withdraw were pretty difficult. I was a heavy user (2 cans every 3 days.) I didn't experience the same emotional rollercoasters others have mentioned. Mostly just nervousness and anxiety. No violence or anger. I consider myself fortunate and don't minimize the anguish of others.

Day number 8 and I've only had 1 craving so far. It actually made me laugh. I kinda welcome the craves now. They are my bitch. They remind me that I'm winning and that my mind is in control. Not my body. I've been in most situations that triggered cravings already. Driving solo long distance. Shooting at the range, etc... Tobacco never made me feel as good as I feel right now without it. The confidence boost has been incredible. I have no desire to go back to that slavery. Would hate to accidently dose myself with second hand poison.

Yall have a good day.
Mike,

Great decision, glad you are feeling good about the quit. You can't worry about those other people, you need to focus on you and the fact that you quit for you. They have to want to quit or they won't but they need to respect your decision.

If you haven't already, post roll with the November group, and read everything you can. This is not going to be easy but the results are outstanding.
A promise not kept is the road to exile.

If quitting is cool, consider me Myles Davis.

Unless you bring value onto my 1/2 acre, I don't want to hear it.
