if your going fishing with a guy who chews or smokes on day 4 of your quit I think your setting yourself up for a rough one. Either that or your planning a cave. You may not even recognize it and I am not suggesting your doing it conciously but why subject yourself to that so early in your quit?

Just between you and me, fish actually do bite, or not bite without a chew in your mouth. Infact, and I'll deny it if you repeat it, but people actually catch fish all the time without a dip.

Did you decide to quit chewing? or did you decide to quit chewing except when .......... The second option is not quitting by the way. Your quit regardless of your situation. Fishing hunting and banging the neighbors wife do not require dip. Your quit.... PERIOD. Not quit until ..

Gem - I'm a former 17 year Cope LC addict and my father is still a Cope addict (40+ years). I was scheduled to go on a fishing trip with my dad this past fathers day, which was day 3 of my quit. I knew the triggers were too much so I cancelled - some things are just more important.

Turns out I wouldn't have been able to fish anyway on day 3 - perhaps you are not going through the same physical suck that I went through, or you haven't committed to quitting yet, but I didn't want out of the bed or off the couch on day 3. At times the fog was too thick for me to even drive - fishing was out the window

This weekend I will be fishing - like every weekend and that is one of the toughest times for me. Chewing just goes so well with Fishing. I have the Beef Jerky tins ready to go, and some sunflower seeds. Does anyone else have any other recommendations, maybe mentally when you get the urge to have one. Anything I can do?

Thanks.
Well, unless you got bumped off today's October roll call, you should probably be posting over there pretty quick, since this is what day 3 for you.

Get some numbers of guys you can call/txt so they'll post your promise. And call/txt early. Giving your word at 11:30pm isn't a promise not to dip that day. The day is over.

Finally, do you really need to go when you're 3 days into your quit? What's your priority? Catching fish, or keeping quit? I don't fish, so maybe I don't get it.

If you need someone to post for you, PM me and you can have my number.

Gen,

Like most of us here, for me dipping was synonymous with everything, driving, taking a shower, taking a shit, cutting the grass, sitting at my desk. Learning to break these associations is just part of being quit.

The good news is that once you do an activity once without dip, it gets easier the second time, easier the time after that, and so on. It sounds like you have stocked up on substitutes. That is a good first step. Also, I would advise not drinking....there is no need to give the nic bich a leg up on you.

Get some phone #'s. If you are about to snap and don't think you can make it...call a quit brother and talk through the situation.

If you are with someone that dips and they offer after knowing you have made an awesome decision to quit....well then gladly accept their offer and then dump their can in the lake.

Other recommendations. Give your word to your group...keep your word. And about the best thing I got...most importantly don't put that shit in your mouth.
Quit: 3/23/10

Your quit must be defended against complacency and a false sense of control over your addiction. There is no such thing as "just one." Stay quit.

Welcome to October. As you have probably heard many times, read read read, everything on the site. I'm on page three of the "words of wisdom" section. Good, and useful, stuff.

I have finally decided to quit for good. I have tried numerous times and every time I seem to fall back into my old habits. I have gotten as far as 20 days, and then the temptation kicks in and I have to start all over again. I realized I cannot do this alone, however, I needed to realize that I "HAVE TO QUIT." So, please help me in getting this complete, so I don't ever have to do it again. I made my quit day on July 4, 2010. So I am going strong for 3 days.
