Guys,

After some tough love last night I decided to drop the can today. I flushed all the skoal, found a gas station to buys the fake stuff, seeds, gum, etc. My big fear isn't this weekend with my wife, but on Monday. I work in construction and 50% of the people I meet with on a daily basis have dips in. There is also about 4-6 hours of drive time a day that will drive me insane. Anyone in similar situations that can provide some ways they got through that is welcome.

You guys are right. I appreciate the tough love. As of this morning I have quit the can. My wife and I flushed every last bit of the Skoal Mint down the toilet and actually found an gas station with the smokey mountain stuff to help with the fixation. Thank you guys for the kick in the ass. Honestly I think being told to man up was what I needed to hear.

Adam,

I've been thinking a great deal about your dumb ass tonight. Not really sure why. Maybe because I vividly recall all the times I intended to quit. Maybe because I recall all the assclowns that have come in here and posted the exact same shit you did to never be heard from again. Sitting here a little bit ago I was reminded of a quote from the west wing that either greg or skoalmonster posted a couple months ago.

"This guy's walking down the street when he falls in a hole. The walls are so steep he can't get out. A doctor passes by and the guy shouts up, 'Hey you. Can you help me out?' The doctor writes a prescription, throws it down in the hole and moves on.Then a priest comes along and the guy shouts up, 'Father, I'm down in this hole can you help me out?' The priest writes out a prayer, throws it down in the hole and moves on. Then a friend walks by, 'Hey, Joe, it's me can you help me out?' And the friend jumps in the hole. Our guy says, 'Are you stupid? Now we're both down here.' The friend says, 'Yeah, but I've been down here before and I know the way out.'"

You have many a bad ass quitter here in this thread offering to show you the way out. So what's it going to be Adam? Quit or planed to quit?

Adam the fake stuff ain't a panacea if you expect it to be you'll fail. You wanna know what looks and tastes like real tobacco so much that you won't know the difference--real tobacco. Unless of course you are using a form of tobacco that ain't your brand in which case it smells, packs and tastes like shit.

I hope you come back when the fake stuff gets here; in my own time I wasted years with my quit plans.

Just grab some coffee grounds, throw in some crushed red peppers and bamn you got a great fake dip there.

Hi Adam my names Jeff and I just turned 40.
I planned on quitting when I turned 30, too.
I wish I had, my gums are so fucked up now I might need a gum graft.
Wish I could go back 10 years and tell 30 year old Jeff to just embrace the suck and get through the 72 hours it takes to clear the system of nicotine.
After that its all in your head.

Ps. I would tell 30 year old Jeff a bunch of other stuff and then we'd be rich!
Last can I opened was a can of whoop ass.

Not one more tin. Not one more dip. Not one more fucking day. Quit now. Take your life back now. Come on. The suck is terrible. Do you have the balls to man up and get through it? I bet you do. Put your foot down and grab the nic bitch by the couchie. Come on now.

Even if you like the taste of the Hooch, it will not take the place of nicotine. You're still gonna' want/crave nic no matter when you start.

Begin now, you'll be happy that you did!!

Quitting nicotine is extremely difficult. It takes real courage, determination and honesty. This site will not give you those strengths. We naturally already have those things within ourselves. The accountability, community and encouragement provided by this site will help you uncover those internal strengths.

Hoocheecoochee snuff will only deal with the oral fixation aspect of quitting.

Quit now. I will support you. And I'm a really big deal around here.

Cancer is black and white. You either have it or you don't. There is one...single dip that breaks the proverbial "camels back". Let's pray your single dip doesn't happen between now and the time your pacifier arrives.

No need to wait. Make that Day 1 post in September.

so you don't 'plan on quitting until the Hooch arrives??? love me some addict logic.

what's the 'plan' should let's say the hooch get lost in the mail? what's your 'plan' should the neighbors dog run off with it once it arrives at your house? what's the 'plan' if you don't like the Hooch?

seems to me you are not finally ready at all. a person that is ready...well they quit. not 'plan' on quitting.

So you want some encouraging words??? Take off your wife's lacy thong you apparently are wearing...man up and quit now.

Hello everyone.  My name is Adam and I just turned 30.  I have been dipping since I was 19 years old and after getting married a few months ago it's time for me to quit.  I have already ordered my Chattahoochee Snuff and it should be here no later than Tuesday.  Until then I don't intend to post again, but was looking for words of encouragement and pointers of what to be prepared for.  All advise is welcome and I will be back when I start day 1.
Here's a pointer. Don't wait. Stop now. Today. Don't wait for the Chattahoochie. Don't wait for the right time... you'll always find an excuse to put it off until tomorrow. Just quit right now. Why would you delay your quit? At NO POINT in your life will you ever say "I wish I dipped one more day."

Consider this post from Dchogs:

so today was my planned "quit day."  my 14th anniversary, beginning of the work week, and right after the holiday weekend.

in keeping with the theme of my original title "thanks," i want to thank the hell out of this site and all of you on it for showing me that you have to seize the moment when you know that you need to quit.  there is no tomorrow in terms of "gonna quit."  there's always another monday that makes more sense.  because of ktc, i'm 16 days into my quit today instead of (theoretically) just starting.

i'm proud to be quit with all of you, especially razz, cornwallace, jbags, and august 11.
Per is giving you some great advice, adam, so I hope you stick around and read this. What in the world are you waiting for? Fake dip helps a little with the oral fixation, but you'll know right off the bat that it isn't satisfying the nicotine addiction. It is not going to make this process easy.

You have a great opportunity to get the nicotine out of your system before you go back to work next week. Dump your can, post your Day 1 promise TODAY and reclaim your freedom. Is it hard? Of course. But if I can do it, you can do it. Read this site all weekend. Get into Live Chat and talk with other folks who are currently going through the suck or have been there and made it through.

Setting a quit date does nothing but give an addict an excuse to keep using. How do I know? Because I set many quit dates. When the day would arrive, there was always another excuse for me to "justify" using for a bit longer...it's really stressful at work right now, I have another softball tournament next week, I have that fishing trip next month, that golf outing next weekend or my dog died. The only time to quit is right now.

Seriously, I used the Hooch, but my bet is that if you wait on it to arrive, you will put the first one in and realize that it isn't going to work any miracles and immediately become discouraged. If you claim your freedom today, by the time the Hooch gets here, it will be just another tool to use in your quit, but you will own your quit. You will be quit. You are not quit right now. What's stopping you?

The love you get here is conditional. The condition is that you are quit.
