Hello everyone. My name is Adam and I just turned 30. I have been dipping since I was 19 years old and after getting married a few months ago it's time for me to quit. I have already ordered my Chattahoochee Snuff and it should be here no later than Tuesday. Until then I don't intend to post again, but was looking for words of encouragement and pointers of what to be prepared for. All advise is welcome and I will be back when I start day 1.
Here's a pointer. Don't wait. Stop now. Today. Don't wait for the Chattahoochie. Don't wait for the right time... you'll always find an excuse to put it off until tomorrow. Just quit right now. Why would you delay your quit? At NO POINT in your life will you ever say "I wish I dipped one more day."
Consider this post from Dchogs:
so today was my planned "quit day."Â my 14th anniversary, beginning of the work week, and right after the holiday weekend.
in keeping with the theme of my original title "thanks," i want to thank the hell out of this site and all of you on it for showing me that you have to seize the moment when you know that you need to quit. there is no tomorrow in terms of "gonna quit." there's always another monday that makes more sense. because of ktc, i'm 16 days into my quit today instead of (theoretically) just starting.
i'm proud to be quit with all of you, especially razz, cornwallace, jbags, and august 11.
Per is giving you some great advice, adam, so I hope you stick around and read this. What in the world are you waiting for? Fake dip helps a little with the oral fixation, but you'll know right off the bat that it isn't satisfying the nicotine addiction. It is not going to make this process easy.
You have a great opportunity to get the nicotine out of your system before you go back to work next week. Dump your can, post your Day 1 promise TODAY and reclaim your freedom. Is it hard? Of course. But if I can do it, you can do it. Read this site all weekend. Get into Live Chat and talk with other folks who are currently going through the suck or have been there and made it through.
Setting a quit date does nothing but give an addict an excuse to keep using. How do I know? Because I set many quit dates. When the day would arrive, there was always another excuse for me to "justify" using for a bit longer...it's really stressful at work right now, I have another softball tournament next week, I have that fishing trip next month, that golf outing next weekend or my dog died. The only time to quit is right now.
Seriously, I used the Hooch, but my bet is that if you wait on it to arrive, you will put the first one in and realize that it isn't going to work any miracles and immediately become discouraged. If you claim your freedom today, by the time the Hooch gets here, it will be just another tool to use in your quit, but you will own your quit. You will be quit. You are not quit right now. What's stopping you?
