You have made a wise choice. Now repeat after me: I refuse to be a statistic anymore. Once I realized the only way to quit and stay quit is if I accept the responsibility of controlling my own actions. A little can no longer controls my actions, thoughts, emotions, MY DESTINY. I DO! There is no going back from here or I am that statistic I refuse to be.

Hey all,

I'm BOC, and I've been free of chew for the past 38 hours. I've quit a couple of times before, but this is the real-deal this time. Sit back, relax and let me tell you why I know it will work this time.

I started chewing in college in 1995. I was in acting school, and a friend of mine was taking a directing class. My friend asked me if I would do a scene for him from the play "Buried Child". The character I was asked to play was a mean ol' bastard, whose feet were calloused so bad he had to put mink oil on them daily, and as the title says, he buried his infant in his backyard. He was also described as a chewer who chewed so much that the area around his mouth was discolored.

I never chewed before, and up to that point, my college roommate chewed. He was badly addicted already and had the big Coke 2 liter bottle filled with spit. I couldn't imagine why people would chew that nasty shit. I worked on religious retreats too, and met a kid who loved to chew. He laughed at me when I said "mouth cancer", "throw up", etc.. Still, I thought chew was as nasty as Rosie O'Donnell naked.

To find out about this stuff, I went to the store and got a can of Skoal cherry. I took the tiniest tiniest pinch and put between my cheek and gum for that "real tobacco pleasure". I got a HUGE rush from it. It was just complimentary with everything (bars, parties, etc.) . I just never stopped.

I had a stroke in 2002, and was forced to quit from the fact that I was in the hospital/rehab for 2 months. I rested at home for 6 months, and got real bored. After a quit of a total of 8 months, I decided to go down to the gas station and get a can of Kodiak. I was hooked again.

After a shit thanksgiving with my family last Thursday, I decided to use my anger against losing my favorite holiday towards the can. 39 hours and 14 minutes later, I'm here typing at you.

I'll keep it short, as I'll take it one day at a time. I'm feeling good right now, and I'm counting the money I am saving.

Thanks for your time.

"How could I insult those who led me through the fog by ever thinking of chewing now, tomorrow or ever? I can't, and I won't."
