We started about the same time.  We are doing this can you believe it!  Good job.  We can and will do this together Shazam!
To any new quitter reading this thread:

Harmwag and Shazam - both July 2009 members originally - are models for how NOT to succeed in a quit. Read through anything they have written (including much of the banter in the April 7, 2010, July 2010 thread) and look for trends in their language and attitude. Then, AVOID THAT.

Here's an example...he wrote this yesterday.

"Yes, I know that dip would never make things better. I got caught up in the "only one won't hurt" philosophy - what a load of shit that is. I will air out my cravings here and with other friends. I have learned a lesson, hopefully The Lesson."

Can you find the word that serves as a hedge/excuse?

(I know you can, Glenn...I'm just pretending I'm a kindergarten teacher. It's fun.)

Yes, Thank you for the Kindergarten lesson. I appreciate the vote of confidence. I'm not a fortune teller or a psychic, so I don't know what will happen tomorrow and can only say "I hopefully" learned my lesson. I'm not here looking for someone to hold me and coddle me. I fucking hate quitting but want to be quit so I come to this site for support. If that support is a beating then so be it, I have a sack and can take it. Its still support so I do thank you for it. I used dip, 2+ tins/day, for 15 yrs and last year was able to quit for 150+ days and felt great. I FUCKED UP AND CAVED. I tell my story for others to learn from and "I hope" no one else falls to a cave and has to start over - IT SUCKS. (So do the beatings - please keep em coming)
I too "hope" that no one else falls to a cave and has to start over. "I hope" you stay quit. Unfortunately, I can't control the actions of others. "I know" I will stay quit tomorrow. Regardless of what life throws my way, "I know" I will make the right choices because caving is not an option. I have the tools to fight back any urges. "I hope" you will continue working to acquire those tools. Many a quitter has reached my level of quit awesomeness, but none has surpassed it. Today, I am the epitome of quit. I know I am an addict and I know I am stronger than my addiction. My large testicles define my fate. I am addicted to kicking ass and spreading seed.

Bitches.
Thank you for the support. I do need to sharpen my tools to help me stay quit. Everyday I work at it. Today I stay quit.

I know with no fucking doubt that whatever happens tomorrow I will not use tobacco. Nothing to do with being psychic or being a fortune teller. It's a choice.

Unless of course you slip on a tube of KY do a triple lindy off the top of the stairs and accidentally land face first in a tub of Copenhagen. Then while gasping for air you inadvertently manage to stuff a ear to ear wedge in your cake hole. I mean that kind of shit would most definitely need a psychic.

How bout this.... I predict you will remember that you're a nicotine addict and that there is no just one dip, cigar, cigarette, gum , snus, patch, or horse cock sized nicotine suppository , AND you will continue to pledge and honor your daily commitment to keep clean. Now, gimme a dollar or do you want your palm red too?

Thank you - I am an addict and I do pledge to not use today or tomorrow. I only have pennies and may be shy by 1 or 2, is that okay?

"CLOSE THE DOOR. In my opinion, it?s the single most important step in your final quit. There is one moment, THE moment, when you finally let go and surrender to the quit. After that moment, no temptation will be great enough, no lie persuasive enough to make you commit suicide by using tobacco."

Thank you - I will choose to be NIC Free today.

I appreciate this site more and more each minute I am on it. The ability to finally hear others that are going through the same thing has made all the difference. I guess last time I just didn't listen to them enough to get it, this time I definitely am listenning.

There is no magic number that makes it all go away and makes it better. We will forever be addicts and need to watch out for the NIC bitch. As your days stack up you add tools to your toolbox and it does get easier, but it will never go away.

Wake up each morning, decide you will not put that shit in your face. Post your promise and quit for today. Thats it. Simple. Wake up the next day and do the same thing.

Keep fighting.. the NIC is gone from your body. Now it is just a mind game.

Here I am on day 5, Again. Exactly one year ago I was on day 5. I feel like shit. I felt like shit 1 yr ago. Why? Why did I cave? I let my guard down and fell off the cliff back into NIC Bitch's grip, that's why.

Day 5. One thing I have learned from this experience, its never too late to quit. You just need to stay quit! Always keep your guard up, even on day 156. Wow, I had made it to 156, now I am back to day 5. Here's to making it my last day 5.
