Hey gents,
Just wanted to introduce myself to the group. I took my first dip in 2004, and have finally decided to kick it. Not sure what got in to me, I had just celebrated my 33rd birthday and since 33 was always my go-to number in sports it felt like the right time to get rid of such a nasty and dangerous habit. I'd given it up for New Years for the last 4-5 years but never got it done. I thought I was going to step down, transferring from long cut to pouches to shredded beef jerky. Got stuck at step 2. Guess that's the mentality of one with an addiction. I think it got most real for me after I threw my last pouch in the garbage can on the evening of March 20. I had a jack 'n coke which was a bad idea, because 1 turned into 2 and then I fished that pouch out of the can like George Costanza with that eclair in Seinfeld. The next morning I was disgusted with myself and resolved myself to never sink to such a low as that again. So here it is, day 5. I've had a number of beers since quit day, and the urge is strong to go get a can. But fuck! I dug through garbage to re-dip a fucking pouch. That shit is horrible. It fucks with your head so badly. It's my turn to be in charge. I can't just step down gradually. I just have to rip that fucking cancer out of my face before it kills me, not to say it hasn't already done enough damage.
Ok, rant over. And I guess I forgot to introduce myself. That's what this thread is for, right? My name's Joel, I'm a 5-year Marine Corps Vet. Recently discharged, graduating from college this fall and hopefully starting Police Academy this August. I re-tore my shoulder so I had to put the academy off for awhile. Just hope I'm healed up and ready to go this fall. Looking to join a new gun club and start my civilian career. I live in Oceanside, CA with my wife and 2 year-old daughter. I'm a huge sports nut. I'm from the Bay Area originally so I'm an A's, 49ers and Sharks fan. Before shoulder surgery I was about a 4.5-5 handicap golfer, and look forward to the long battle back to that.
Anyhow, glad to meet all of you guys. I've got a feeling I'm gonna need all the help I can get. I'm a total Newb to forums like this so if anyone has any pointers or suggestions on how to better participate let me know. I'm gonna try and get on here once a day to check in. Semper Fi!
