First of all, joining this community is not my M.O. I've always been a "tough guy"... I didn't need help or encouragement from others to get done, what needed to be done. Lately, I've been changing my perspective on that "tough guy" attitude. So, here I am looking for encouragement and hoping this can be the last time I quit.
I decided to quit one week ago today. I've been an on/off dipper since High School (early 80's). I've managed to quit before (multiple years), but ended up falling back into the trap each time. I was dipping about 1 can every 2.5 days. Besides the obvious health benefits, it's kept me from spending time with my family because I tried to keep it a secret. I would come home from work, eat dinner, and then retreat into my office staying there until bed time. Also, I noticed the more I dipped the more I avoided exercise.
So far so good. I made it through the first 72 hour phase, so I guess my body is de-toxed now. Now, I'm looking for ways to stay away, avoid, or change all the triggers. At work I was able to dip pretty much any time I wanted. After lunch and after dinner are still the hardest times. Exercise helps, and strangely drinking hot tea seems to help some.
Wish me luck as I do to all you can killers out there.
