i quit smoking on 4-28-07. with the success i started having with it on the 1st of the year ( a week here 2 weeks there) i started chewing one day and finally quit for good on that date. never before did chewing work to quit smoking. i would usually toss out the tin after a few dips and light up again. this time it was unexpected though, you don't appreciate it until you go a week or so without smoking. now i am addicted to this and i really am pissed that i started this thinking it would be easier to quit than cigs. the addiction is more physical, as with cigarettes it is more psychological.
welcome to the site! head on over to november 2007 and introduce yourself to your quit bros...

Hi, I started  dipping when I was about 12 years old.  I was addicted when I was 14 and I am now 26.  My reasons for quiting are...  Like most kids do, my two year old wants to be like me, therefore he likes to do the things I do.  My boy has started spitting into bottles after watching me do it so many times.  This breaks my heart knowing that I have set such a bad example on him.  Another reason is because I want to live a long and healthy life, however the acid reflux from dipping hurts so bad, the only way to describe it is a bowling ball going up and down my asophagus and stomach.  I have to take over-the-counter prilosec just to get through most of my days and sometimes thats not enough.  The third reason is the money issue.  I could save over two hundred dollars a month if I can sucessfully kick this horrible habit.  My wife has witnessed my many failed attempts trying to quit.  I say it so often, I think she's begining to lose faith in my attempts.  I joined this group for help and support.  I want to meet people who suffer from the same addiction as I do, I feel I can give and recieve a little help from fellow addicts.  I average about 1 can a day.
Thank you

welcome to the group!

you are definitely among "friends" here that have (or are dealing) with the same issues. my acid reflux was so bad that i took myself to the ER twice during my quit cause i thought i was having a heart attack.

this CAN be done... i'm not going to wish you luck cause luck's got nothing to do with a successful quit - it's all about determination.

I like that. Detrmination is the key, not luck.
