Radman, you definitely slapped me in the face with your post.  And I must tell you, I agree with you 100%.  I can't say that I've had success in the past since I'm here. And naming nicotine a habit instead of an addiction is nothing but lipstick on a pig.  It's still a pig.

Honestly, I feel pretty good just being 2 days in.  I know that it's different this time because it's me that wants to quit.  Sure, quitting for others has its perks and reasons, but I know that if it's not for you personally, it will never happen.

Now, if I can just stop eating everything in sight :)

Welcome, Jolly.  You have come to the right place.  You're realizing that you are not special.  We were all filthy liars to the ones we loved most.  That's what nicotine does.  That can be fixed.  It takes a little different mindset to make this thing work.  Here are a couple examples of what I mean:
Quote
Had some success quiting a couple of time with the use of medication
You didn't have success before. If you did, we wouldn't be having this coversation. You took a break, just like I did many times in the past. What are you doing different this time?
Quote
I dipped when my wife and I met, but the habit......
Not a habit..... an addiction. Again, it's a mindset thing. Habits can be broken, but an addict is never cured. We can be quit, but never be cured. I'm always just one single dip/chew away from the exact situation I was in before. It took me a while to get my head around that concept, but life became a lot easier when I did.

I dipped/chewed for almost 20 years like you. I'm 38 years old and have 3 young kids. You can do this.

Drop me message if you need anything.
That's the great thing about KTC. Folks here are brutally honest, and that is effective. I'm just passing on what some wise vets here once bestowed upon me.

As far as eating: that is common. ShaunL just posted in his intro thread about it yesterday.
Glad to have you jollyman. It looks like radman has straightened you out. He straightened me out a couple time whether indirectly or directly. Radman knows what to say and when to say it.

Your sleep is going to be messed up for a little while. It's now getting the oxygen it was suppose to have been getting for over 20 years. It's now beginning to heal, work the way it's suppose to. We screwed ourselves up mentally 'bang head' and there is a price we have to pay. Ultimately the price is worth it. When your brain starts to work the way it was intended you will see all that you were missing... This is one fight you have to win one day at a time. IT IS SO WORTH IT MAN!! Glad to be quit with you........

The poison sucks. I hate it. I hated it this morning, I hated it at noon, I hated it at supper and I hate it tonight. I enjoy hating it so much I'm going to wake up tomorrow and start over hating it. I quit with anyone that wants to hate it with me.

Well, I've been dipping for over 20 years now.  Had some success quiting a couple of time with the use of medication and thought I would try that route again.  Well, $260 later and still needing a fix, I was fortunate enough to find this web site.  Thank you Lord!  Just getting ready to hit the big 41, and figured it's time to take control of my life back.
I dipped when my wife and I met, but the habit has become the topic of a lot of "discussions" over the past few years.  So I've had to become a "ninja dipper".  The top 100 list nearly made me piss in my pants laughing.  And the reason being, is that I seriously thought I was alone in my secret, ninja dipping tactics.  I had no idea there were that many more people out there that had succumed to this horrible life style.
I have a beautiful 4 year old daughter, and a beautiful wife.  I am soooo done getting into arguements and scheduling random trips to pick up stuff, etc..., just so I can have a fix.  What a pathetic way to spend a life as a husband and father.  I would always find a reason to go outside, go to the grocery store, anything, so I could get my fix on.  No more!
I've come home the past 2 days without having any tobacco on my breath, or in my system.  And I will say this, you can't beat Clean Living!  Damn it feels good going in the house after work, and not worrying if I left a spitter or other evidence throughout the house.  I can't explain how happy I am that I've found this site, but then again, I'm preaching to the choir.
I asked Jesus for his help in getting over this addiction.  He led me to you guys on this website.  I look forward to walking this journey with you all.

Cheers!
Welcome to the best decision you have made in awhile!

Quitting is not easy as a matter of fact it is one of the hardest things you can do but with this site some balls and quite a bit of resolve you will make it and the freedom is awesome!

A couple of suggestions I will say is first stay close to the site for as long as possible, these guys are your support and you weapons to fight back any craves you might encounter. Secondly post early and keep your promise, remember a man can be measured by his word so post your promise and keep it! Thirdly get some number from your quit brothers, these are the guys you will call when your having moments of weakness or even just need a quick kick in the ass, you will also find out there are great guys  gals who have been where you are and where your going and knowledge from them means a ton!

Read as much on here as you can and hang on brother cause the ride is crazy but very well worth it!

Let me know if you need some numbers brother  quit on quitter!

Welcome Jollymon! I remember the constant worry that I'd left evidence for all to see. Not today.
I have been quit for over 600 days and I still do a pocket pat before going in the house to make sure I "hid" my can before walking in the house. Old habits die hard.
