You all are right!! Thanks for all the great advice! Alot of different perspectives on how to do it but all agree, just do it!! I know it will be difficult, but I have to do it for myself so I can get this nicotine bitch off my back!!

Sometimes I think we have a tendency to look for that "magic bullet." Pretty sure it doesn't exist. From my perspective the most effective means of eliminating an unwanted behavior is cold turkey. Any behavior modification professional is going to tell you if you take something away(nicotine), you need to replace it with something. The short list in this case would be herbal alternatives, any # of NRT options(which I don't condone) or other means of oral stimulation ie gum, seeds, toothpicks, hard candy......
Prescriptions such as Wellbutrin or Chantix may have worked for some and that's great. But check the research, longterm they aren't nearly as effective as going cold turkey. BUY INTO WHAT THIS SITE TEACHES AND CAN OFFER IN REGARDS TO SUPPORT. YOU WILL FIND NO STRONGER OF A BROTHERHOOD WHO WANT TO HELP YOU THROUGH THIS. Ultimately you're going to have to decide how important your nicotine addiction is to you. If you want to quit and stay quit bad enough, then it's "go time." Make that commitment each day to stay quit and focus only on that given day. I'm only on day 10. Can't tell you what tomorrow will bring but guess what, today I will be nicotine free there's no denying that.

There's nothing nicotine has to offer that I need. Never has been, never will be.

I too quit cold turkey. I am now 84 days quit and not looking back. Make your decision and stick to this site. The first three days are gonna suck but, if you use all the resources here, you will be successful.

I went the gum and seeds route so I can't vouch for the herbal.

I quit cold turkey once I joined this site the support is thing you need the most not meds. I had many failed attempts also, but after 30 years of addiction I can say I've quit.

That doesn't mean I'm cured but it does mean I know how to handle my addiction. One Day at a Time.

My two cents

I want to quit, I really do. But I ahve failed cold turkey attempts too many times before. Do herbal substitutes really work, or do they just make you want the real stuff even more?? I am even thinking of medication from my family physician. I am unsure of my first step, mostly because I do not want to fail again.
I have done both routes. That's what it took. No More Tobacco. The gum or patch just prolong it. Cold Turkey and use hooch products depending on what Tobacco products you used. first off... welcome to the group!

as i said in my pm herbal might just be a great help for you and your quit. many here have used them while others don't like them. for me it was a godsend. for others it's too close to the real thing.

other still have gone the medication route. the bottom line is do what you need to do to quit -- we'll be here you every step of the way.
